Jason Terry is a combo guard whose masqueraded as a PG for a lot of his career, Mayo is a SG with a good enough handle some have tried to make him into a PG (not very well though).

Without looking at stats, I'd say the main difference is attitude. Terry is an irrational confidence guy, Mayo isn't. I don't really see Mayo as being as electric as Terry. Then again, he could be a better defender because of his size and quickness.

I don't know, different players but I wouldn't say Mayo is nowhere near as good as a young Terry...

ok, looking at their stats I think Terry gets the edge. He's a better shooter and passer. I guess Mayo can technically still get better but don't know if he has the personality for it.

A younger Terry was a dead eye shooter, scorer, tough as nails guard. Mayo is a...body. He's wildly inconsistent and doesn't really care when he's on the court. Coutney Lee is closer to Terry than Mayo.

I would agree that Courtney Lee is closer but Terry doesn't put forth as much effort on defense.

I would just say that there are similarities in Mayo and Terry's games currently, not when Terry was younger.

Wow, you mean the Mavs can rebuild without shuffling players for five years? They have almost completely turned over the championship team and formed a competitive new team in less than a year. Does anybody even know their GM's name?

The Rockets haven't been competitive over the past 5 years? What the Mavericks have done is set themselves up for mediocrity for the next five years.

There's a huge difference between being competitive for the playoffs and competitive for a Championship. What the Rockets have been for the last 5 years is mediocre.

Dallas has done an excellent job of re-tooling their team this summer. Mayo is one of those players who could really benefit from a scenery change. I think he can replace Terry well.

Of course, but the moves Dallas has made don't make them competitive for a Championship.

Retooling a team that was no longer in contention. This was Cuban's MO before they won the ring. Just all came together that year. As Dirk declines the situation in Dallas could get ugly. Not sure Cuban is the type to let go.

That said.. they will be a decent team next year. Not a contender but they'll make some noise. Get labeled a darkhorse by a few ESPN analyst and will flame out in the first or second round.

$4M? At that salary that would've been a risk worth taking for the Rockets to try Mayo as their starting PG.

Dirk has covered up for a lot of the bad personnel decisions that the Mavericks have made over the years. Now that his career is approaching its twilight, I think we are going to see the Mavericks wallow in mediocrity for a long time.
