Hoopshype says we are interested , I think the kid can play at a near all star level once he starts. If lee walks this is a guy who can compliment dwight well and everyone knows he doesn't start because of gay and randolph. Can we afford him after the bloated contracts?
Always liked Mayo. Underrated by some IMO because he hasn't lived up to the enormous hype. He's right-handed and he doesn't quite have the first-step, but there's something in his game that's always reminded me a bit of Mobley. I remember Mayo being a very high-effort defender early in his career, don't know if that's still true. Depending on how the roster shakes out, I'd probably be interested.
Goes without saying, but this is a move that is only made if we land Howard. Looking at his numbers he was a full time starter his first 2 seasons and played 38 minutes a night and put up 19/3/3/1. Then he moved to the bench the past two season and has seen his playing time decrease by 10 minutes which along with the constant trade rumors has to account for the slip in his numbers. Still for his career he is around a 43% shooter from the field and an impressive 37% from downtown. As long as we don't take back too many Magic contracts if/when the deal is made I would turn right to Mayo and offer a deal in the 8-10 million a year range. This would set us up for the following year at exploring another max type player as with Howard and Mayo on board you have one max and the other a high but not too high contract.
Mayo's agent said the Rockets are one of the teams they "could be in the running". That's agent speak for "the Rockets got a lot of cap space". Regardless, no to Mayo.
Only if it doesnt impare our ability to get another star in 2013 to match with Howard. Otherwise, sure. Parsons can be the perimeter defender, putting a more offensively minded SG next to him makes sense.
Mayo is better than anyone we've had the past couple of years If we can get Howard, and Mayo is around for the taking I'm sure Morey is looking, especially if he ends up flipping CLee for cough Fab Melo or draft picks to replace the picks we send out for Howard. -mayo is I'm sure a target when this all goes down, and Lin etc are matched
If we end up with Dwight and both NY and CHI match our offer sheets. I wouldn't mind adding him as piece around Dwight if we had the room. He can shoot and that is exactly what you need with Dwight. Plus Mayo can run the pick and roll which is perfect for Dwight.
If we land Howard, or even Bynum, I would be good with adding Mayo assuming Lamb is not still on the team. He is still really young at 24 years old.
I think you go a bit higher than MLE for him. Not saying anywhere near max, but he is a guy that could be a third piece on a team that has two stars in my opinion. He is a 15 point scorer for his career.
He's only worth having IF we get D12. Otherwise it's pointless. Having a SG rotation of Mayo/Lee is good on both ends of the court. If we get Lin [which i believe is unlikely] and J-rich in the D12 trade then getting both Lee and Mayo might be pointless when it come to playing time. But, it could be a move made "in good faith" to D12 that we will try to build a good team around him. [Lin]/Machado/Duhon/Livingston Mayo/Lee/[J-Rich] Parsons/White/? [BigBaby]/D-Mo/Leur [Howard]/[Asik]/Smith ...is an instant Playoff roster without question...my guess is maybe 4-6 best... It would make it easier to pitch to D12 to stay after a roster like that and a playoff run..
