I have a question. When seeding something, what does queued mean?

 

well lets look at it this way...i'm not sure whose invite i used to sign up, but i've been on oink for like months now...i dont even have a 1.0 ratio...granted i dont let my torrents run over night...and on top of it i only have 3 things d-loaded...i would really like to get my ratio up before i start d-loading...dont know might just need to use up the 5 gigs you get and then just stop messing with oink? i just find it almost pointless if you're limited to d-loading stuff like in my case.

 

Look through your CD collection and find something. I did that and I found 24 albums or singles not listed on Oink as of yet. I seeded 2 albums and that has got me 300 MB of uploads today alone.

How secure is Oink when we are talking RIAA?

 

103 GB up vs 16 GB down here. The free period helped, but I haven't downloaded much at all in the past 2 months. I use Demonoid first, then Oink if I can't find what I want.

My 3 biggest Oink uploads (according to ratio) are a portion of Nissan Service Manuals, a portion of Chronological X-Men and Learning French in a week, none of which are music, nor did I gave 2 ****s about actually having (although the Nissan Service file is helpful for my 2000 Maxima).

If people just use Oink and Demonoid together properly, they will be fine.

 

someone needs to just post a step by step guide to get ratio up as in what needs to be exactly done. not just, google port fowarding ...i could dig through cds, but i'm pretty sure most of my stuff is on there.

I have a question. How does sharing work on Oink. I have uploaded 12 albums/single over the past few days but it's like I only get to share it once. I uploaded a 7 MB single today and it has been snatched 14 times already but I only have credit for 8.65 MBs uploaded, why? I mean my share ratio is up around a 4 but I want to get it so high that I need not worry about downloading.

When upping or downing from my empornium and cheggit accounts, sharing doesn't work like that, at least I don't think so because it is always easy to share even when there are hundreds or thousands of uploaders.

 

Wait for Christmas to come around so you can take advantage of the free leach week (that is if it does come back). Upload something or jump on some hot new item as soon as it's uploaded even if you don't want it. Audio books helped me out when I first joined.

I didn't even download anything I wanted at first. I waited for a good ratio before I started mainly because the stuff I wanted wasn't wanted by many others.

 

This is the best advice. I built a 30 gig cushion last Christmas using audio books (the massive Star Wars audio book collection there) and other large files. I have a 1.477 ratio currently, but I still have 20 gig until I'm back to 1-1.

You could also donate and get access to the Top 10. Even though they request 5 Pounds ($10), you can still do it via paypal. Choose a few of the "Top 10 Most Active Torrents Uploaded in the Last Day" that you think will be popular and leave them open as long as you can.

Last year, there was a time period where Oink allowed members to download whatever they wanted and it would not count against your ratio but anything you uploaded did count.

 

I hear ya bro. Luckily I got all that I need from private sites for now anyways. Guess it's back to abusing Happy Hour and newsgroups...

And Oink may be pretty strict, it's actually pretty easy to get and maintain a good ratio. Just don't gorge on dowloading at the beginning, spend a few moments looking and downloading popular albums or albums with one seed but several users, and if all else fails just find some album around your house that nobody has, convert it to FLAC (Oink users eat those up), and seed. That's what I did back when I still used Oink.
