I dont want one now, but in the future when work slacks off, I wouldnt mind one.

I cant speak for ratio since Im not a member of any sites, but I *can* tell you that my upload amounts are off the charts, and I havent downloaded anything in ages.

    Sent.

Again to both of you, take it easy on the downloading early on. It's easy to dig a hole with your ratio. Check out some of the previous torrent threads for advice on legitimately building your ratio.

    look into port forwarding.

If you have a high speed connection w/router, changes need to be made in the router config, if you dont have a router, it might be an issue with a firewall.

Demonoid has a much larger member list as they are open for registration typically twice a month, plus their ratio requirements are bascially nonexistant. Oink is strictly invite only, and due to their strict ratio requirements you won't see as much action with Oink torrents as you would a Demonoid. I got lucky and downloaded around 60 Gigs during the ratio free leach fest during the holidays and I'm still seeding every bit of it. It's dramtically increased my ratio, and I'm not even "clever". I can't for the life of me figure out how to forward ports.

Demonoids trackers sucks though. It doesn't even track half of what I upload.

    W00T! I am now "clever"!

If any of you are having trouble forwarding your ports, follow the guide below.

    Link.

I went into the "options" tab in Utorrent, clicked "speed guide" and checked the port needed to forward to. I then followed the instructions in the guide above and BOOM went the dynamite. Now Oink says I'm Clever.

    Most awesome.

I am running ZoneAlarm...does that mean I need to do this? My uploads are working though...that mean everything is fine?

Also, anyone have any idea how to get my ratio up quick? Most of my music is already on there so uploading that is kind of pointless...any other ideas to get my ratio up quick?

I'm not sure what you're asking? I also run ZoneAlarm, but I wanted to forward ports so that I could get faster speeds for both downloading and uploading with my bittorrent client.

Before I figured this out I was uploading around 145 MBs a day with Utorrent per Oink's tracker. Now, as of last night at around 9:30 PM I've uploaded 1.9 GB acording to the Oink tracker. If you're looking to get a much faster ratio boost, this is definetely the way to go. My ratio is gonna fly through the roof now. :D

oh so port fowarding is for anyone, i thought it was just something that helped people who said they're ratio wasnt going up because oink's tracker wasnt tracking their uploads. Also, any other sites that help set up the port fowarding anywhere? that site you provided isnt helping me...might be little to technical.

I actually found that site to be the easiest so far. I've been trying to forward for months.

There are other links the the Help forum at Oink that might help, and there are a lot of links when you Google it. Trust me, you'll :D when you figure it out. Total ratio boost.

I didn't even have to mess with ZoneAlarm. I opened up my Utorrent, clicked "options" then went to "speed tests". I scrolled down and it showed me what port it was using for sharing. I then followed the steps in the guide I posted (I use a wireless router and followed those steps) and it just started working once I entered in the ports I wanted to open.

For instance, if your bittorrent client says it's using port 32456, you'd probably want to open ports 32200 through 34000 on your pc.

I really have no idea what I'm talking about though, as I am too still learning. I totally just got lucky and accidentally did something right for a change. I did read a lot about if on the net and cursed a lot, though.
