What a crock of ****. So every other NCAA sport can have tournament to determine the national champion but if you do it in football it's a "slippery slope to professionalism"? What a ****ing douchebag.

Or maybe Boise State was just that good. They did, after all, beat an Oregon team that finished the season #11. And they held them to 8 points. Oregon averaged somewhere close to 40 points and beat 4 other ranked teams last season while winning the Pac10.

The problem is that it's all conjecture without more data - which goes back to my point about the disappointment of last season.

Going back to the original post, it's amusing that this guy's stance is:

    1. We shouldn't have a playoff.
    2. Non-AQ teams should never be eligible for the title game.

That's the last argument the BCS would ever want to make given its anti-trust concerns.

No, they weren't. I watched the game. It wasn't exactly a worldbeating performance by either side. They were what we thought they were, which is why their final poll standings were firmly at 3 (picking up fewer votes than the previous weeks 3) and not anywhere close to 2.

Lots of good teams have non-world-beating performances. Texas wasn't exactly a worldbeater against A&M or Nebraska, and ended the season solidly at #2. Texas without their best player nearly beat the #1 team as well.

Maybe those teams looked bad because their defenses played really well. Boise, in particular, has outstanding scheming on both sides of the ball when they have lots of time to prepare. And TCU's defense is just ridiculously good anyway.

Gee is a blowhard. He is one of the University presidents that just really wants to be a public figure. He wears wacky, mismatched bowties and says outlandish things just to draw attention.

Both TCU and Boise might actually have more quality wins than Ohio State. Ohio State's best win is against a pretty good, but not elite Iowa team.

If UT were 8-3, the T-shirt alum would still argue they deserve to be in the championship.

On ESPN last night, they showed a graphic how Boise and TCU both have much stronger strength of schedules this year than OhioSt.

I saw the graphic and it didn't say that. It showed that Ohio St. had a tougher schedule, but not by much. It was pretty much the same thing Major posted yesterday. However, they did show that Boise St. and TCU had wins over teams that were ranked in the top 10 at the time they played them (Virginia Tech and Utah) while Ohio St. doesn't.

No. That wasn't it, they were simply not as talented on offense as the top teams, because their athletes weren't as good. That's why most of the other national champions have better athletes, and it showed that night.

Prior to that game, there were plenty of "underdog" supporters in the media from the "non-AQ" conferences (who automatically get 1-2 teams per year in practice, but table that) who were making lots of noise about how TCU-Boise winner should be voted #1, . After that game, and the BCS title game - that talk pretty much evaporated, and there wasn't even significant support that they should be #2.
