Ohio City Schools Closed Because Wild/Exotic Animals on the loose!

lol. Reading some of this makes it sound like hoax material. I can see why they shot many of these animals, though. There were apparently 18 tigers, 17 lions, and 8 bears. You're asking average Joe Shmoe or a sheriff to corner these things and keep track of them until "properly trained" folks get there. That ain't gonna happen.

 

That was so sad seeing all those dead animals on the news. Jack Hanna looked devastated.

 

There may be too many for them to efficiently tranquilize and safely transport; or to even mobilize that equipment and manpower in a reasonable amount of time.

the animals were probably over aggressive because they had been abused and neglected...humans let that happen and now humans shot them dead. Sometimes you just have to leave nature alone.

 

Poor animals, R.I.P it sucks that nobody from the Sheriff Dept had any Tranquilizer guns in handy... Oh well, does all that meat go to waste?? I'd eat a tiger burger!!!!

 

Rumor is the zoo owner asked a currently unemployed neighbor to guard the animals, but Kevin Martin just let them go expecting Chuck Hayes to take a charge.

 

It's sad but what else are you gonna do...

Then we send a veterinarian or the sheriff up there to see if the animal is down, right? What’s gonna happen if the animal is just sitting there not even asleep? You’re dead.”

How did a criminal that was in jail have the money and means to get all these animals together and feed them? Who took care of them while he was in jail for a year?

This is such a bizarre story.

 

They did have tranquilizers they apparently weren't working well.

 

Why are people, even sane ones, allowed to own such 'pets' again?

 

This is crazy. As a kid, I spent a lot of time in Zanesville. I also had a few neighbors that had "exotic" birds and cats growing up in Iowa. I need to see if my dad knew this guy.

 

Yeah, but heard a soundbite on the radio this morning where he agreed with putting down the animals...

It's like Jumanji all those animals...

All of the animals were within 500 yards of where they escaped. It wasn't like they were running wild through the city. They were just hanging out. And got shot.

 

I think they had neighbors nearby....some lady talked about how she could hear the lions roar from her home.

 

And they were going to continue to hang out all night so that the appropriate personnel could collect them in the morning?
