You people who actually think yao is gonna score 20 points a game are dreaming. There is no way he can get those kinds of numbers playing on a team with Mobley and Francis. All Mobley does is score. Francis can do anything, but since he has hardly anyone to dish to, he has to carry the load himself. It is possible for yao to grab 10 boards a game and 2 blocks, but he isn't a force in the paint yet.

JVG was saying that he likes Francis and Mobleys games so I now get an indication that JVG might not be going to make the big changes, that so many have hoped for. Instead we might expect more of the same with minor adjustments. This also means that once again Yao Ming will play a subordinate role to the play of the Guards. If this is true I pedict Yao Ming Scores 14 pts a game with 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Francis and Mobley will score 44 pts/gm. and Francis will have 5.75 assists/gm. and 6.25 rebounds/gm. He will once again be called the Leader and Point Guard. If Les allows this to be so, then Les must take the blame if we dont make the playoffs in 03/04.
I just dislike small ball.[It reminds me of Jordan and the Bulls] Basketball is a BIG Mans Game in my eyes.

here is my expectation and how I arrived at it.

Yao averaged 29 mpg. I expect that increase by 20%, to 34.8 mpg. If he merely gets the same number of fga per minute, he will score 16.2 points per game.

I believe he will get the ball more. How much? 20% more. So I use my 1.2 x 16.2 and get 19.4 points per game. I think that is a reasonable conclusion. Eddie Griffin got nearly as many FGA a game as Yao, and that ain't happen' again.

Yao's still tired by all reports and he's not getting any rest before camp. I say his numbers will be the same. Fatigue may be a bigger factor this year than it was last year. Maybe the Rockets should consider limiting his minutes for the first quarter of the season or so.

here are last year's FGA per game for three guys

    9.8 yao
    8.0 mo
    8.8 eddie

this will change, and I expect Yao to jump to 14 FGA a game.

OKAY... DON'T MEAN TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT HERE, BUT I JUST LEARNED SOME IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING OUR NEW UNI'S AND WAS NOT SURE HOW TO START A NEW THREAD! IF I AM WRONG, FORGIVE ME... BUT I BRING THIS TO YOU FROM THE GM OF LIDS (THE HAT STORE) IN HOUSTON... STOPPED IN AT THE KATY MILLS TODAY AND ASKED WHEN I COULD EXPECT TO GET A ROX HAT OR VISOR WITH THE NEW LOGO! (THEY DID HAVE ONE HAT THAT WAS TOO CLUTTERED... IT SAID "Houston R Rockets" ACROSS THE FRONT OF IT. THE "R" OF COURSE WAS BLASTING OFF). BUT BACK TO THE POINT OF THIS POST... I ASKED HER WHEN I SHOULD EXPECT THEM TO HAVE MORE MERCHANDISE, SHE SAID "not for a while... early October probably. They are changing their uniforms slightly, b/c Cuttino Mobley was seen wearing the new jerseys and according to some rule either by the NBA or the merchandiser, you cannot expose new uni's until a certain date set forth by the NBA." Thus, ROX broke that rule, accidentally of course, but according to her, they are having to tweak the jersey so that the one Cuttino was wearing in that picture is not the same one they release later this month.

There may be no truth to this whatsoever, but she did say I should buy that hat I was looking at b/c it would be worth money someday since it was not the official new hat/style/logo... whatever!

Actually, IIRC, Yao was "hacked" a lot last year, but maybe only 1 out of 3 or 4 of them were called fouls. I think that is mainly due to him being a rookie and getting rookie calls, so I don't see that being much of a problem anymore, especially since he may actually start getting some of those star calls like SF is getting sometimes. I just don't want to see anymore 7 inch scratches on him anymore.

I suck a predictions. I'll try though, but it will probably just be bits and pieces I take from all that have already done theirs.

    34 MPG
    17.5 PPG
    9.8 RPG
    2.75 BPG
    3.25 APG
    0.45 SPG

    FG% 51
    FT% 84
    3p% 100 (he'll just take one and make it :) .)

I think Tim said it was an early jesey design or something. It was on the NBA site for an NBA commercial, so I would think the NBA broke the rule, not the ROX. In fact, I think Tim said he didn't even know they were doing it, or something like that. Screw the NBA...silly...stupid..sillys.

I think they also hope to have the new jeyseys unveiled in September. I think saw most of the dates in the 10-15 range. I don't know. I guess it could be a month before they sell it.

What I saw at the end of last year was that the rest of the nba
learned his weakneses he will inprove on them but at the same time so will the players who are blocking him but on the good side he is a solid 10 10 guy and one of the best centers in the nba

If Yao can just master the jump hook from 5-10 feet. He should avg. 20 a game easy because that shot is damn near unblockable.

This is ridiculous...if Steve would just learn to pass the ball to the roller on the pick and roll, especially with Yao, who sets a dominant pick, Steve could average 10 apg - he kinda does it with Cato, although for some reason he insists it has to be in the form of an alley-oop.

Assuming JVG forces Steve to pass on the PnR, I expect from Yao:

    23 ppg
    11 rpg
    2 apg
    2 bpg

why do you think yao numbers would get worse

Cause did you see how he played last year around the end of the season? Im sorry to say, but I dont think he can improve unless he actually goes to training camp this year cause the CBA are gonna f*ck him up. Everyone knows how to stop him now, so thats why i think he might get worse

    2003-04 Season

    18.3 pts
    9.8 rebs
    2.4 blks
    2.0 assts
    53 FG%
    81 FT%

Not a bad year. The year in which I believe Yao will really "blow up" is 2004-05 -> 24.6pts, 12rebs, 3.6blks, 3.0assts

MoT with 1.7 blocks, 4.4 assists AND 2.75 steals? Oh that's rich. I can just see the championship banners.
