Correction: 7th instead of 6th in the draft

Screw that, their offense would be killer if they drafted Durant.

    Roy
    Durant
    Outlaw
    Aldridge
    Godzilla

Only the first 3 picks are decided by the lottery after that it goes by standings.

If I recall correctly it was Minnesota who drafted Roy before us and dealt him to Portland for Randy Foye.

JVG would not have developed him anyways but he would have had only 1 year with him.

Not sure if this has been posted, but didn't JVG bench T-mac AND Yao for the entire fourth quarter in hopes of losing? If I recall correctly, it was Juwan Howard who tried ultra hard game and had a career night.

    So let's no blame JVG.

Um, what evidence is there exactly that Morey wouldn't have traded Roy for Battier if he fell to us at #8?

IIRC I think everyone knew that we wanted Roy. I remember reading a few articles about it but he was "stolen" from us by Portland which angered a lot of us at that time because it was based on one measly game that lost us the opportunity to draft him @ that 6th spot.

Juwan played hard without a doubt and had 31 points.however we were out of the playoffs and there wasn't a real reason to play a veteran like him. He could have put Stro in there instead.

i can't believe JVG had the audacity to score 31 points and play defense that night. I mean, he KNEW that Roy was going to be available at that pick, didn't he? I think he actually paid some Nugs off to miss a few shots, too, just so he could selfishly win a game. His players knew they needed to lose but he just wouldn't give in and kept playing hard. b*stard.

Of course GMs would prefer Roy to Battier, as did the Rockets (Battier was fallback plan only after failing to get Roy) and as would I right now. But that´s not the point isn´t it? The point of the thread is to play what might have been? So if we are playing that game, we might as well consider all of the consequences. Many are hoping the Rockets tank right now for the top pick, so I am just wonder what bringing a star like Roy would do to those plans.

Oh, what a night, late December back in '63
What a very special time for me
As I remember what a night!
    Oh what a night,
You know I didn't even know her name
But I was never gonna be the same
What a lady, what a night!
Oh, I got a funny feeling when she walked in the room
And I, as I recall it ended much too soon
    Oh what a night,
    Hypnotizing, mesmerizing me
She was everything I dreamed she'd be
    Sweet surrender, what a night!
I felt a rush like a rolling ball of thunder
Spinning my head around and taking my body under
    (Oh what a night!)
Oh, I got a funny feeling when she walked in the room
And I, as I recall it ended much too soon

Did you call Joel "Godzilla"? This man should should be ousted from ever posting here again.

And I'm sick and tired of the what ifs. I could be running for President of United States IF I wanted to forcing a bill to the NBA that requires the Houston Rockets to have rights to any person in the world regardless of contract.

I spent 8 years in Portland and as a fan (second the Rockets), I was extremely happy with the draft of Greg Oden. Besides, the book is still open on him. He is what, 22 now?

Besides, hindsight is always 20/20 my friend.

this isn't 1980, there was no lock to get Roy, no matter what game we lost or won. This is almost as bad as saying we'd have scola still had we not traded for tmac, shane, or whoever else. The lottery is not a lock. If we win more, it possibly changes the way the balls bounce and the draft could have been significantly different, which means teams may scout differently or look into different scenarios, make different calls.

In that case,I would go for the more mature rookie Roy as compared to John Wall.I don't want to tank but I have never disguised my desire to re-build with youth from scratch.

Then how did we get Yao with the 5th worst record?

False. Every team that doesn't make the playoffs has a chance at the #1 pick.

See the matrix for probabilities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Draft_Lottery#Process

How about not trading Samspon for the Drexler and the number one pick

Dream, Jordan and Drexler seems like a nice young core to build around.

Did Morey/CD ever come out and say they wouldn't have traded Roy for Battier, had Roy fallen to us at #8?
