Cat...Ive probably seen as much of Collier as you did. Probably around 10 games.

And let me tell ya. NO WAY ON GODS GREEN EARTH does a dude with his slow of feet, and lack of jumping ability ever translate into even a mediocre talent in the NBA.

Hes a weak rebounder....Yeah I know, he averaged 9 boards in college. blah blah. Facing center a whopping 4 inches shorter than him. How about the fact that he averaged 1 block a game? For someone who towered over College ballers, he sure wasnt defending his goal very well.

Let me say this again. Collier is soft, slow, sluggish, sloppy, and a bench warmer the rest of his life.

Now on to the Langhi/Najera debate.

I personally thought that the Rox did very well in drafting Najera. And wished they would of kept him...over Langhi. Not that Im personally disappointed in Langhi. I just felt like with Bullard, Collier, Walt, and at the time Drew. The rox didnt have a need for a soft Defense/outside shot guy.

But who knows, so far he hasnt been disappointing at all. So good luck to him. I hope he does do well and supplant Walt at the SF position. Heck he couldnt play any worse D than walt.

And why is people still think that next years draft is going to be sooooo deep, and fantastic. I was reading, (I believe from the same draft guru that came here to chat) on a web page that next years draft looks shabby. Wish I would of kept the link. Maybe clutch can help us out if he could contact the guy again...why cant I remember his name?

After all that rambling. I still believe the Rox are poised on 40 + wins this year, and are one J Williams joint away from making the playoffs, if not sneaking in on their own prowess.

The Rockets made a huge blunder by trading Najera, and they pay for it for years to come. Najera is a future All-Star and plays with a fiery intensity and reckless abandon that nobody on the Rockets can match. He is the reason that Dallas will make the playoffs this year and we won't!

I agree Houston made a mistake in the draft, but it was not with their second round pick.

Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.

I think what you said is exactly why so many BBS'ers are pissed. If the guy is only going to be able to garner 5 mpg, why draft him in the first round? Why not take a flyer on anybody remotely athletic who we can throw into a game for 10-15 minute stretches? It's fine that Collier has an outside shot to pull people out when the Rockets are on offense, but what can he do when the Rockets are on defense? It will be damn frightening to see this poor guy try to stop Shaq... he may want to get with Olowokandi and see how he recovered after Shaq went 60/20 on him.

Cat im not going to go into a big argument with you over collier but I can gurantee I've seen as much of Collier as you have and he is not a good player. In response to your comments there are guys in this league who are practice guys. For instance Jermaine Oneal, the other players said he tore it up in practice but whenever he got a chance to play he was at best mediocre. Collier may be able to knock down a jumper catching the ball from Jim Boylen in practice and pick up 2 erasers in less than 12 seconds but when it comes down to knocking down the shot and rebounding against NBA TALENT he will flounder. Mark my words. I dont base my opinion on one preseason game, I base my opinion on Colliers 4 years of college mediocrity. I would have preffered a guy like Quentin Richardson who could have played backup 3 for us and would have brought a rebounding presence.

Anyone think Collier looks like a younger Bill Curley??

I pray he doesn't play like one.

There seems to be a lovefest for Najera in Houston, but is there anyone who would really rather play him over Kenny Thomas?

I forgot to mention something else about this game that should have been mentioned. Our "favorite" referee, Steve Javy, was on the the squad. It's always a nice coincedence when the Rockets lose and Javy is on the floor.

Everybody keeps talking like we ACTUALLY DRAFTED Najera. Dallas Drafted Dan Langhi FOR US, and we asked them who they wanted when our second pick came up and they wanted Najera. He was never our guy.
Clearly Najera is going to be the class of the Western Conference power forwards, but the Rockets were looking for Langhi with the second round pick and didn't think he would be there at 38, so they worked the deal with the Mav's before they made their pick at 31.

I will tell you one thing, if either Mo or KT learned to play with that much fire, they would be a perinial all star.

    Tacoma and Dreamshake,

I do want to end this, but I'm just wondering if you were watching the same games I did. In Collier, I saw a physical presence who could run the floor, rebound, and shoot well- a future NBA prospect. I do respect your opinions guys, it's just in the times I watched Collier play he was quite impressive IMO, and I certainly didn't notice anything at all like you claim.

i dont mean to be snobby, but i think that our front office guys know just a bit about drafting players. Everyone has good games, and i think that najera had an excellent one, but anyone who's saying that hes going to be an allstar and all that, thats way premature. I think that langhi has a chance to turn out better than najera.

cat, i went to the charlotte game and was at least somewhat impressed in the improvement of collier's game, especially his effectiveness to guard quality guys like elden campbell and pj brown. Do I think this means he's going to be good? No. But he still may be able to help this team in some way. i think the reason I was pissed about him being drafted wasnt the fact that we drafted him but where we drafted him. I mean nobody had collier slotted a midfirst round pick. If we had picked up collier in the early 2nd round then its a good pick but in the mid first round is a bad pick.
