I hate the Knicks and I always will, but I still had respect for them. That's something that a lot of you guys don't seem to have for the Knicks. The Knicks played hard and Ewing was once a dominant player. Who cares that Ewing was a Knick years ago? He's played and coached for several teams since. He's regarded as a good assistant throughout the league and that's what's important. Hakeem was amazing, but who knows if he wants to coach or if he would be a good coach. I'd like to think yes to both accounts but he hasn't come forward so we can't dwell on it.

Give him two years.

No significant improvement in Yao?

Bye bye Pattycake.

I like the hire alot. As it has already been stated, Ewing worked with Mourning back in Alonzo's younger years.

The main reason I like this hire is because there was nothing special about Pat's game. He excelled on the strength of his height, length, toughness, and shooting touch. No incredible athleticism or O'Neil-esque proportions. He is very similar to Yao in this regard and Yao either already possesses or can easily acquire Ewing's greatest attributes. Ewing also was one of, if not the, greatest jump shooting superstar big man of all-time. This is a great hire.

Now that Coaching is set, I have just one question.

Is trainer Keith Jones still gonna be part of this team? What's his situation? Because he's done a fantastic job with this team and I would hate to see him go.

Teaching your 7'5" center to shoot jump shots is exactly what we need.

Yeah. He's still gonna stay because he's the Vice President or something highly executive too...And he's a good friend of Larry Brown....he's one of the best trainers. He better stay!

There is nothing wrong with shooting jumpshots if they go in and Yao has great shooting touch.

I know......Yao is a SUPER pure shooter.....takes a long time to set.....but man......they all go in if he gets some time to prepare! Nobody knows this because he never had the chance to shoot facing the basket......he was always posting up......I wouldn't mind him shooting 3's. :D He's probably the 4th best 3 point shooter on the team. Hopefully he will get the chance to shoot more open jumpers....like how Stephon Marbury drives to the basket and dishes off to his big man who is cutting or on the baseline and gets an open shot!!!!!!

As long as they go in!

But Eddie.....he needs to stay inside or be moving or be setting good picks.

This really is a good move for the over all future of the Rockets at center. But it is to be noted that most Rocket fans that are in there 30's will tell you that they have been a fan of The Dream since his days at UofH. Therefore, they must have a deep hatred for this man we now call to for help. Did we all really like Charles Barkley as a Rocket? Not at first. For some of us, it is still a hard pill to swallow. Will we ever really accept Mr. Ewing? Probably. You'll have to love the fact that everyday this man has to come to work and be reminded of the fact the Dream has 2 rings, and he has none.

This is true. And he'll have to look up at his statue.
One can always find a silver lining.

And if he can, you suggest just suppressing this ability? It's not like Ewing was Jason Collier, he mixed it up inside too.

GREAT MOVE A IVE SAID BEFORE. Ewing will be a much better coach than DREAM ever thought about being. DREAM is too much of a great natural athlete. Ewing had to work to be a good play so he can show YAO some things and he wont get frustrated coaching YAO. Its like Jordan coaching someone...he cant he would get frustrated cause the guy couldnt do all he could.

Hey Jeff, thanks for taking my remarks in stride.

Re: change - yes change is inevitable. But the amount of change that takes place, and the speed with which it happens is what I'm talking about here. I think this franchise is very rich in tradition, more than most others. The problem I have is that when you look out there on the court, you don't see any of it. Very rarely does so much change so quickly for one team.

I mean,

Uniforms
Arena
Players
Coach

All of these things have been completely changed (some more than once) in such a short period of time. I don't think you'll find another team with the history the Rockets have that can say that. Yes, you can't play in the same arena forever. And players retire, coaches get fired, etc. But do they ALL have to change just like that? I mean come on. How about a little adjustment period? Seriously, when I turn on the first game next year, unless you tell me the Rockets are playing, it may take me a while to figure out.

And this isn't all about Ewing, obviously. ;)

On 'real fans' - I'm still a fan. I don't have much choice. But I don't agree that I have to blindly support them just because they're the Houston Rockets. That's what I was getting at earlier. Isn't there SOMETHING a team could do that would cause you to stop rooting for them? There has to be. It seems your allegiance is more to the city. That's fine, but I don't live in Houston, so I don't necessarily feel that way. My loyalty is to the organization. If I feel the organization has lost some of what I liked about it to begin with, I might have a problem with that. Were you a Houston Oiler fan the last year they were in Houston? Since they 'had the same name and played in the same city', I guess you had to be. You would've been one of the only ones.

Oh, I'll enjoy myself. Trust me, complaining can be quite fun. ;)

Having an arsenal that includes jump shots is fine. Having it be a staple of your game as a 7'5" guy in a virtually centerless league as a member of a perimeter dominant team is not a good thing. You don't draw fouls on jump shots, you don't get as many offensive boards on jump shots, you don't draw double teams as often with jump shots, etc. Plus, even the best jump shooters don't lead the league in shooting percentage.
