I'm guessing 1st round : Wisconsin C Konz or maybe even OSU OT Mike Adams (the Texans apparently were showing interest in him during the Senior Bowl) 2nd round: WR 3rd round: OT/C depending on first round. Need to get a pass rushing LB after that and hopefully continue to add OL depth maybe another WR.
i don't think jones is getting cut. i've heard the texans talk before about cutting players before free agency so they get a chance to sign somewhere else. basically a courtesy to the out going player. since they didn't cut him before 3pm, i don't think he is getting cut.
Now we see why it's so hard for teams to repeat. 2011 might have been the Texans' only window, getting the goods on the way up... Then, when it's time to pay the piper, you reload. What a business. GM's are more accountants than managers.
The way this is playing out...I am feeling more and more dejected going into next season. I don't care who they draft...that OL was the key to the offense. Keeping Shaub upright and making holes for Arian is the most important thing. A new OL will take time to gel....this is very disturbing to say the least. 8-8 here we come..AGAIN!!!!! of course sarcastically written
We still have one of the better defenses in the league, Matt Schaub, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson. And a GM / coach with proven drafting skills. You build from the draft, and lose a couple key guys a year. That's how the NFL works. But if you draft well and keep most of your core in tact, you'll be good. Texans are still heavy favorites in the AFC South.
We'll see if that is true if Peyton ends up signing with Titans...ya never know with the kind of money Bud Adams would be willing to throw out there....
currently... #illtradejacobyjones is trending in houston on twitter.. the best one i've read. #illtradejacobyjones for a pack of triple A batteries and a mint flavored toothpick
Chris Myers is no Arian Foster. We took Arian from nothing to pro bowl; he returns the favor by taking a below market contract. We stuck with Myers through several ****ty seasons all the way to the pro bowl and he returns the favor by seeking a Mangold-level contract. This makes me even sadder that we cut a standup guy like Winston who wanted to stay.
i know it's early but so far this off-season is more bad than good. hopefully the draft will change that.
8 years/57.4 million only comes out to 7.17 million per year. I have a feeling the Texans are offering Myers a Antonio Smith deal at 5 years/35 million (7 million per season). The Texans just need to lower years and amount of guaranteed money.
PFT is rumoring that Santana Moss will be a likely cut candidate if they sign Eddie Royal. He'd be a great pickup in the secondary market if we can find the funds.
For those currently freaking out about the Texans: John Clayton@ClaytonESPNReply In the first 24 hours of free agency, 46 players reached agreements, including 20 who moved to different teams. John Clayton@ClaytonESPN Teams still have plenty of work left. There are 381 remaining free agents.
Joel Dreessen visiting the Saints this weekend Mike Brisiel will visit the Raiders tomorrow per Mark Berman
That's too rich for my blood, especially with Konz projected to fall right in our laps at #26. I'd rather save the money for Duane Brown if Myers wants north of $4-5M.
The Cowboys agreed to terms on a two-year deal with fullback Lawrence Vickers from the Houston Texans, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed. Vickers, a six-year veteran from Beaumont, Texas, played in 14 games last season. He only had one carry and had two special teams tackles for the Texans. Vickers was the lead running back for Arian Foster. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4690819/cowboys-sign-fb-lawrence-vickers
It's looking to me like we will need to trade down from #26. It lowers the cap number for draft picks and allows us to draft more positions. We need 2 OL, WR, DE/OLB in the first 3 rounds.
