Here is an updated cap scenario for signing Durant where we no longer have to pay to keep DMo. Spoiler So we don't necessarily have to pay someone to take Brewer off our hands in order to have enough cap space to sign Durant. If we were to resign Dwight I wouldn't be surprised if it were to a decreasing salary that started over $20 million. If we renounced our rights to Howard and TJones and waived Ty, we would have $17,487,923 left in cap space AFTER paying Durant a max.
Yeah, I like that plan too. I also wouldn't mind trading for Jeff Teague in the off-season and trying to sign Batum, or Barnes.
Somehow i picture Durant waiting till last moment to decide... and by then all the other FAs will have signed with other teams leaving us with another 9th seed season. oh yea, Durant then re-signs with OKC after all that.
Some of you guys are talking as if Dwight might still be with this team next year. There is no way he's sticking with us. You might think no other team will pay him what he wants, but he won't either. And he most definitely will have hard feelings. Probably would rather play for Dallas for less money than play with us.
I think it goes like this We dump KJ and Brewer in the off season, we waive Lawson, renounce Jones and Howard That leaves us with Harden, Ariza, Beverley, Dekker, Capela, Harrell and possibly a 1st round pick (1+ mill cap hold) + roster cap holds That adds up to about 38 mill in salary leaving for 50+ mill in cap space at minimum (cap for next season in rumored to between 88-95 mill) That's enough for 2 30% max players (Durant, DeRozan, Horford, Conley) Best case scenario is Durant and Horford IMO. Beverley Harden Durant / Ariza Horford / Harrell Capela But there is endless possible scenarios like Horford/Conley or the 25% max players like Whiteside/Barnes/Batum etc.
It's possible: 16.8 - Harden 7.6 - Brewer 7.8 - Ariza 6.0 - Beverley 3.3 - McDaniels 1.7 - Dekker 1.3 - Capela 1.1 - Harrell 1.7 - 1st round pick cap hold 1.6 - 3 cap holds That's about $49 million. The NBA current projected cap is $92 million, which would leave the Rockets with about $43 million in space to work with. If they unloaded Brewer and/or Beverley, that could them to $50-55 million in space, or enough to sign both Durant and Horford to max contracts. Let's say they traded McDaniels and Brewer. That would give the Rockets about $53 million. Beverley Harden Durant / Ariza / Dekker Horford / Harrell Capela Still....I think it's too much to bet on Durant and Horford walking away from huge 5 year deals and good teams.
If we got one, we'd just package them with a useful bench player and a 2nd round pick for a late first round pick.
Lol c'mon dude. We need a healthy, quality PF, Morey couldn't afford to play russian roulette with paying Dmo this summer. He got good decent value for him at this point with his contract and health issues. And the pick will be a mid 1st, likely between 12-18.
The Pistons will probably make the playoffs and get a decent seed, the good part about making the Rockets worse is that really it's like getting 1 late first round pick and 1 mid first round pick since the Rockets will be able to keep their own pick now most likely. That's pretty much the best we have to look forward to this season and then hope Durant wants to go play for another cheapskate owner.
