Hey, yeah New York screwed us this time, but we screwed them and got a championship from the Rockets! Remember when they said Houston is a hell hole? Hell, new york is a S**T hole!
If its true that he signed with the Mets then his first and only series in Houston will be July 28-31. Im going on the 28th just to boo his b**** ass.
I don't think anyone should be mad at Boras for this. That is who he is as an agent .. Everyone in MLB knows that .. The Astros knew that ... And MOST IMPORTANTLY Beltran knows that If you are all about the $$$, then Boras is your man. Beltran used the Astros like a dirty w****. He is the man we should all hate. Boras is a cocky, arrogant SOB that only cares about money. But I knew that so I can at least respect that. Beltran on the other hand puts up a huge front and hides who he really is.
Deferred money, hardly. Every major contract has deferred money - even with the big teams : the sticking point was that Boras wanted to drive up the price by using the Astros as leverage - and Beltran went merrily along. He'll say lots of things about how the negotiations didn't go properly, but it will all be ****. We got played. **** em both.
I am so angry and frustrated right now. I mean, honestly, what can you do with 112 million that you can't do with 105 million? Plus the added bonus that everyone is Houston loves, or now used to love, him. I just don't understand Carlos's thought process. He actually fooled me into thinking he was different. He seemed so sincere and like the type of person who would settle for a place that he feels comfortable in, but that just was not the case. At least Randy Johnson, our other big name half year rental, told us that he wasn't interested in coming back so we could continue on with our offseason priorities. I don't think I have ever hated anyone as much as I hate the Beltran/Boras monster right now. Best of luck with the friendly, forgiving, understanding fans in New York, Carlos.
count me there as well. i never thought that he was like a-rod but if it turns out that it was all about the money, screw him, we don't need money whores like that on our team. hindsight's a b****. if we knew this wouldve happened, we couldve had j.d. drew and another starting pitcher for the same price as this b****. that's what we get for putting all of our damn eggs in one freaking basket. excuse me for my language, as i'm really pissed off right now.
This actually makes it more important for the Astros to have Clemens back. With Clemens, we would still have a solid 1-2-3 punch on the rotation and that usually leads to a competitive team. And if you get to the playoffs, then anything can happen, especially with good pitching. Clemens has stated that he decided to pitch for the Astros to help bring a World Series to the city of HOuston, well now they need him more than ever. REsigning Clemens should be the AStros top priority now... In any case, I hope that when Beltran goes to MMP, Houston fans show him what he missed, by NOT booing him. After all, he helped provide Astro fans with one of the most exciting runs in baseball history, he always showed 100% effort and did it in a professional, classy matter. THat he chose another team, for whatever his reasons, does not negate all the thrills he provided.
pued. I really don't know if we tend to defer more than other teams or not. but if that was the sticking point than Beltran didnt want to stay with us that badly I guess. If he wanted to be an Astro.. he would have stayed. Then again, If i tought I could end up getting more money.. I might be tempted to do the same.
The Mets are going to be like ARod's Rangers. Carlos Beltran is going to be known as the next big loser with a fat contract. This could actually be a good thing for the Astros. Last year's team was built for a short-term run. Now it's time to start laying down a foundation for a long-term contending team. Let's resign Lance and Roy to long-term deals and give opportunites to our prospects. Without Beltran's contract, we will have more money to sign players once Bags' money goes off the book. The Astros may not be able to compete this year, but we will be in a good position in a few years. We got played by Scott Boras, like many teams in the major leagues have been. Let's move on.
http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-beltran09,0,4218663.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines BY JON HEYMAN STAFF WRITER January 9, 2005, 1:27 AM EST The Mets appeared to be closing in on a deal to sign star centerfielder Carlos Beltran early this morning to make him their centerpiece player. The Mets and Beltran were said to be "only four or five million dollars part'' in discussions that could put Beltran in a Met uniform for seven years. It is believed the Mets deal could be worth between $115 million and $119 million. The signing of Beltran would cap an extremely successful winter for the Mets. They signed the best free-agent pitcher Pedro Martinez, and looked very likely to sign the best everyday player as well. Beltran hit .267 and had 38 home runs and 42 stolen bases in 2004 and played brilliantly in the postseason to lead the Astros within a game of the World Series. Going into the week, Mets people were uncertain whether Beltran would sign with them. But they had to feel better about their chances when Boras on Friday sent them a counteroffer to their $112-million bid. The Mets resumed serious talks after the Astros failed to sign Beltran by their midnight deadline. The Astros and Beltran's agent Scott Boras negotiated right until Houston's deadline, when talks broke off. A few contractual hurdles could not be cleared. The Mets had been the highest bidder going into the day, but Boras had been hoping the Yankees would get into the mix. The Yankees surprised the Beltran camp by declining to meet his asking price. Yankees president Randy Levine told agent Scott Boras in a 6 p.m. phone call that the Yankees were not ready to go to $16 million per year, or $112 million total. Yankees people stayed by their phone, and it is believed they would have gotten more involved if the price dropped into the $100-million range. Boras was in contact throughout the day with three teams, the Astros, Mets and Yankees. A person familiar with the Yankees thinking said that while they liked the player very much, they were concerned about the luxury-tax implications of a $112-million contract, and that the timing wasn't perfect since some big contracts, like Kevin Brown and Bernie Williams, don't come off the books until next year. George Steinbrenner was in contact with Boras several times throughout the week, and word was that Beltran was very interested in becoming a Yankee. Steinbrenner held a 90-meeting in Tampa Friday to discuss the Beltran situation, and w While his baseball people expressed a concern about Bernie Williams' diminishing skill in centerfield, his "money men'' also had their say. One person who's talked to Yankees officials said that the Yankees might have considered re-evaluating things if they were able to make a favorable separation settlement with Jason Giambi. However, that could take until close to spring training, and would be an enormous gamble for Beltran to wait it out when he had other $100-million-plus offers on the table. The Astros bid where few thought they would go to try to beat the large-market teams that vied for Beltran's services. It is believed they bid at least $105 million over seven years. Astros owner Drayton McLane aggressively pursued Beltran all winter. McLane made it a personal goal to keep Beltran, who excited Astros fans with a monster postseason performance that brought them within one game of their first World Series. Most people never believed Houston would surpass the $100-million mark but it did in the final days, giving itself a fighting chance. "
If by halfway through the season things are really sucking I do expect the Astros to jettison the icons...maybe in a package deal. This is bad news for the future of the franchise but we knew that the future was in jeopordy anyways. We have an aging roster and a depleted farm system. I don't want to see Biggio or Bagwell in any other uniform, but at this point we may have no other alternative. We know Drayton's willing to spend at least 15mil more this season on additions the only problem is...most of the good ones are already gone. A couple of pitchers who are available and can help us in the bullpen are Shane Reynolds and Antonio Osuno. Both will come cheap.
I don't see how we could defer more money - A-Rod's deal was half deferred, so was Manny Ramirez's. We'd have to defer significantly more than 50% on a regular basis, and I don't think we do. I think we got played, for what will turn out to be no financial gain for Beltran.
The writing was on the wall when HUN left.In my heart,I just don't believe Drayton went as far as we are being lead to believe.
Do you want to know how Beltran is lieing?....Just wait for him to speak. Anything he says is just a PR stunt to make him look like a good guy. Mark my words, Beltran WILL regret his decision. (unless he signs with the Yankees) If he signs with any other team, they will not be better than the Astros would have been if he had signed here. He is a money mercenary just like every other athlete. Here's hoping that he struggles to ever live up to his ridiculous contract. And I truely believe that Mclane will somehow make this competitive. He know has a lot of money to play around with, and hopefully our younger players will step it up. Today is a sad day.....I just wanted to believe that there was ONE player out there that didn't care only about monetary value.....
Fudge Yea...I'll show all the class he showed by not even giving us an ANSWER...what a jerk. My Sign For the July 28 game (first game vs us in MMP): BEAN BELTRAN!!!!
