I doubt the Mets can realistically go that high. They have problems with the mandated debt to equity ratio. I could be wrong though.
I don't think any of the contract values are going to change... unless Boras calls Drayton and says that he'll only sign with Houston for X amount. (which is really what Drayton has wanted... but Scott hasn't provided him with that parameter).
Yeah the numbers are set by all the teams allthe parties know this and it's just a matter of Boras probably telling Beltran to wait till the last minute because we could get a call by Drayton uping his bid. That's the only logic behind waiting till the last hour. But it is doing a good job of keeping everyone in houston ready to be by a tv or internet waiting around midnight.
Agreed... although I think it will be Boras who will wait till the last second, then call Drayton and perhaps ask him to raise his bid (and with the deadline, there will be no time to number crunch... it will have to be a gut decision), and then the pressure will really be on McLane. If Drayton gives in, he very well could be upping the bid against himself... basically throwing money away, but if he calls the bluff, he could risk losing him. Drayton is not going to be increasing the contract voluntarily. It will take a call from Boras to make him do that... and why wouldn't they wait till the last second to spring this on Houston?

A SOURCE CLOSE TO THE NEGOTIATIONS HAS INFORMED BUSTER OLNEY THAT ALTHOUGH A DEAL IS NOT DONE AND NO ANNOUNCEMENT HAS BEEN MADE, HE EXPECTS CARLOS TO RETURN TO THE ASTROS. The reason this excites me is that Olney has never really thought the Astros were getting him....so perhaps someone has given him enuf info to change his tune....lets keep our fingers crossed!!!!!
