Beltran is either going to be an Astro or an Asho. Which is it going to be? It won't be long now...my friends.
No way Boras passes up the Astros offer, IMO. At this stage of the game, with only 2 teams really in the running, he cant afford to let the deadline pass, eliminating 1 of the 2 teams from the race. That could spell disaster for Beltran. Carlos will be an Astro in a few hours...
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=rotowire-arloseltranikelytota&prov=rotowire&type=lgns Carlos Beltran: Likely to Stay Put RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com Saturday, January 8, 2005 Update: A prominent executive with a major league team said the prevailing thought throughout Major League Baseball was that Beltran will return to the Astros, according to the New York Times. Recommendation: The Astros and the Mets have offered Beltran seven-year deals in excess of $100 million, with the Mets believed to be offering more at $112 million. But with no state income tax in Texas, the offers are almost identical. Three Yankees officials said George Steinbrenner, the team's principal owner, has not mentioned Beltran in more than a week. Steinbrenner declined to comment on Beltran on Thursday. Unless the Yankees suddenly make an offer, it appears as if Beltran will stay with the Astros or give the Mets another marquee free agent to join Pedro MartÃnez. The Astros, one of his primary suitors and perhaps one of his only two suitors, have a midnight deadline to sign him. Not really new news. But it is from a different source. I sure hope this is remotely accurate. I'm off to return crappy x-mas gifts. I'll be checking my cell phone every 5 minutes.
http://www.nypost.com/sports/mets/37932.htm Interestingly, Beltran's sister, Marie, came to the door of the family's house yesterday in Puerto Rico wearing an Astros T-shirt bearing her brother's name and number.
I do not havea good feeling.... I think Boras is hoping drayton calls and says we will give you 112 like the mets. But I know boras would call mets and get 120 or 125
Olney was just on ESPN News and said that Carlos is expected to wait until just before midnight to announce....not sure if thats old hat or not but not much else out there as far as updates that I am seeing. He restated the obvious and said that it will come down to whether he wants a quieter life in Houston or the fast lane in NY where he will be counted on to be the Mets savior al la Piazza.
From people within the organization that i know stated that Clemens would be back. That's why i said that.
