This is looking through rainbow colored glasses, isn't it? In the event that much was made of the tax incentives of a Texas contract, if mentioned by the Astros ...might the agent Boras immediately refute the claim stating, "could you not trade him? How would your analysis work out if you traded him outside of Texas?" ... crickets might be heard playing taps (or the Mets fight song) in the background.
The Astros have had a much better organization the last decade. Has any move this offseason indicated they're going to improve. They overpaid for a pitcher who is on the verge of having his arm fall off. They've inquired about a declining superstar in Sosa. Mike Piazza? Cliff Floyd? Outside of 2 playoff appearances the Mets haven't been much of a factor. No one can dispute that the Yankees will win more than Houston in a given year.
MM, Keep the faith. I know you don't want to set yourself up for a massive disappointment, but I really can't see him signing with the Mets. Of course, that's me taking his word at face value, which is probably a mistake with professional athletes.
unless Omar has convinced him that things are changing, and they'll spend whatever it takes to make that happen. but you're right...i am trying to brace for disappointment! no doubt about that!
Respectfully, I dispute that. Much more? Astros have more wins over the course of history, more playoff appearances, more division titles. The Mets have made the WS and the Astros haven't, but I don't think you can distill all the facts and find that the Mets have been a "much more successful franchise."
is that right?? the 'stros have won more games historically? i find that surprising, given how awful this franchise was until the 1980's. the mets have won two world series...and been to another. i'd be hard-pressed not to trade franchise history, frankly...as long as i didn't have to trade the cast of characters. i suppose these teams will always be compared in some measure, simply because they hit the league at the same time.
Houston Astros Houston Colt .45's (1962-2004) 3408-3430 0.498 0-0 New York Mets (1962-2004) 3228-3598 0.473 4-2 Last column is pennents-world series
they went in 69...86...and 00 (right?? the subway series??) what was the other time?? in a million years i would not have guessed we have a better franchise record. that's really interesting. thanks for finding that.
'73 I believe EDIT: Mets: Postseason 1973: Lost World Series (4-3) to Oakland Athletics Won NL Championship Series (3-2) over Cincinnati Reds
Houston Astros Houston Colt .45's (1962-2004) 3408-3430 0.498 0-0 New York Mets (1962-2004) 3228-3598 0.473 4-2 point is: it's been 32 years the astros are better but give it time..the Mets will come around j/k
b*stard. That's what I get when I hit reply and then am interrupted mid-reply with a phone call. I'll hit refresh on the thread next time.
