I waited this long for them to talk about beltran and they don't say S***! What a waste of time. Geez. Now they are talking about is he worth the money.....well...yes.
Yep, that would definetly piss me off. I don't think that will happen though. I don't see the big show down between the NY teams happening. This thing should be wrapped up soon.
If the Astros indeed offered 105 million, wouldn't the Mets or Yankees have to offer around 150 million to equal the money he would pocket in Houston? Does Boras really think that anyone is going to bid that much?
I think it would have to be about 112 mill. Boras wants the biggest $ deal, because he gets a percentage of the total. I don't think the taxes effect his pay.
boras does not care what they offer carlos as long as it is the highest offer. He gets payed a percentage of the money.
If Beltran signs with us, then he bees the man! If Beltran doesn't sign with us, then he's a focker(a focker was defined by the movies so it can be good or bad depending on how you look at it). Oh, Drayton and Potpourri(Pupura) will be fockers, too. COME ON, BELTRAN! YOU KNOW YOU FEELING THE HOUSTON VIBE! YOU ARE THE MAN AND WILL BE TREATED RIGHT. You got the billboard around town, the snowman built by the fans, the buzz is all around, and we feel like you are what we need to get over the hump to the World Series as you proved. You can do something really special here...unlike in those places. They've done it. We're still trying to do it...and we need your help! I implore you...good sir...to take the challenge. The reward will be more than you can imagine. There, it will be nothing but another. Let's do this thing, Mr. Beltran. This is where it's at. The money is better b/c of the no tax and lower cost of living. You'll hate it there in the winter. Help us....help you! Good luck, regardless. It will be real hard if you go elsewhere because it will dash our hopes for the future. You can make a difference in so many lives by doing it all in Houston. Think about it. Peace. - Surf
I thought all along that if Boras could get at least $100 million (and thereby outclass Vlad's deal with the Angels), he'd back off if Beltran had a real preference for Houston. I might be wrong. The thing is, I don't think he can get the two NYC teams in a bidding war. I really believe that the Mets have already made their best offer and that the Yankees don't want to take on yet another massive contract. I think there's a real risk of Beltran getting less from the Mets once Saturday comes and goes.
That's way too low. The Chronicle today mentioned that the Astros have argued that 15 million in Houston equals 39 million in New York. I know that Boras takes the cut from the total amount, but let's look at this from Beltran's stance. If he doesn't sign with Houston, HE doesn't want to be here. He would be turning down more money in his pocket, so it's not about the money. In the end, Boras doesn't tell Beltran where to go, it's Beltran choice. Boras is only doing his job and trying to find the best possible deal that fit where Carlos wants to be.
way too low? I figured it must of been between that and 120. Guess not. hell, can't say I know too many things about this much money.
Remember you have to factor in not only the state income tax in New York, but also the cost of living. New York's cost of living is EXTREMELY expensive, while Houston's is very cheap for a city it's size.
charlie palilo put it like this is carlos avg amount of spending in houston per year was 5 million dollars... in new york it would be like 10-12 million or so
So the Astros saying that 15 million here equals 39 million in New York is probably pretty close. Beltran will be turning down more money to sign elsewhere.
On the tax stuff, you need to realize that only 1/2 of Beltran's salary would be taxed according to TX law (since he would only play 1/2 his games here) - still a savings though. Also, the cost of living in Houston or NYC or wherever won't be a major factor because I'm sure his offseason will always be spent in Puerto Rico. Besides, a guy making $17M a year doesn't worry about the cost of soap - he probably has his soap flown in from Sweden or something.
I really don't get all the Boras hating, he's doing his job. He's supposed to get the best offer that he can for his client, and that's exactly what he's doing. If Beltran want's to play here he will, Boras doesn't tell Beltran what to do, it's the other way around.
I think what people are complaining about is that Boras isn't doing that at all, but instead is only trying to get more money so he can get a bigger cut for himself. I don't think that $112M from the Mets is a better overall deal for Beltran than $105M from the Astros when you consider taxes, the quality of the team, and the environment. But for Boras, $112M versus $105M is a no-brainer.
