    A Rome quote

"The Astros made their final offer to Beltran, and it won't be enough"

Hopefully there will be many shocked sports writers/analysts, etc come Monday.

In the words of Dude from The Big Lebowski, "No, Walter (Sam), you're not wrong, you're just an *******." :D

Just like when he bashed the Astros this past year for not trading away Kent/Beltran before the trading deadline. I love it when he has to eat his words. Of course, he's always gonna be biased towards "SoCal".

I actually agree about Burke, I think he deserves a shot. And if he fails, Biggio can't be any worse at 2B than he was last year in LF. I don't know how you can speak for "most fans" though. You're entitled to your own opinion, but speak for yourself. Actually, I'd be surprised if fans didn't want Kent back. He seemed pretty popular after Game 5, porno mustache and all. And there's no chance the Stros even make the playoffs without his play last season - his hot bat in August and September helped ignite the Stros during their amazing late run.

I'm basing my opinions partly on past history, and partly on this ulcer that the Beltran situation is giving me. Again, we'll see how it plays out, if it comes to that. God willing, VesceySux will give us good news this afternoon. :D

Pardon me if this has been posted already:

    ESPN Insider Rumors:

The Astros could move on Burnitz if they lose out on Carlos Beltran. Houston manager Phil Garner is familiar with Burnitz from their days together in Milwaukee, and Gerry Hunsicker, who moved upstairs from his job as general manager after the season, was with the Mets organization when Burnitz was a young minor leaguer with New York in the early 1990s.

Uh... No thank you. Don't bring your trash with you, Garner.

VS! You rule! I will have ESPN on all day just in case.

Garner better not follow JVG and bring in his trash.

Vescey...did your source tell you why he thought "it looked good" for the Astros?

I would have liked him back...not at the expense of Beltran though

Yuck, Burnitz. His numbers are waaaaay Coors-inflated. He's below average in any other park. And he's a mistake-pitch hitter who strikes out too much.

I have always liked Kent, but what he said after game 5 really made me want him back this season. "The little boy inside me having fun again."

But if it was between him and Beltran, I want Beltran.

One word for the writing of Richard Justice:

    Mindless drivel.

    OK, two words. :)

Well, I'm trying my best to be optimistic, but I'm not aware of ANY situation in which Boras' client went to anyone but the highest bidder. The guy is simply evil....bad for the game. Apparently, after torching the Rangers w/ ARod's deal, he pressured them to go after Chan Ho Park, another Boras client and his contract was a joke. I just think the Astros' brass is in a tough spot. McLane is EXTREMELY consciencious of his fan base and I think he understands the likely backlash we could see if the Stros miss out on Beltran and Clemens retires. There's been talk of a deal for J Cruz Jr., but he's not gonna make up for the production we lose w/ Kent and Beltran gone. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that Beltran works out.

I am amused by VesceySux's posts, but wanted to ask you dudes a question:

To What could you compare this "Beltran Sweepstakes" or "Beltran Watch" or "Beltran Race" ??

Maybe "the same as watching the ball drop on New Year's Eve"?

Or Maybe "watching what state goes to which presidential candidate" ?

Have at it... I know I am not the only one speculating here that this will be a good thing to see happen, whether it is for a little money of for a lot...

What could compare to all this anxiety we're all feeling? :)

This is getting exciting. When they traded for Beltran, I assumed he was just a rental. But if we don't get him - puhleaz no Burnitz.
