The Lakers would want to make that trade more than the Rockets would.

When Bynum comes back, the Lakers will be full of bigs/rebounders. I'm sure they are gonna look to move one. Odom has a sizable contract, with only two years left. The Lakers could use a nice defensive minded wing player to shut down the Ginobili's, Hamilton's, and Davis's.

Teams will clog up the lane with Bynum, Gasol, and Odom in the game. Battier would space the floor better than Odom. Every championship team has had a Battier type high energy, defensive minded player.

    Spurs - Bowen
    Heat- Haslem
    Pistons- Prince
    Lakers - Fox
    Bulls - Pippen
    Rockets - Maxwell

The Rockst have ScoLandry, and Hayris.

With Bynum, and Gasol crashing the boards they are set. Battier and Kobe are also good rebounders. The Lakers would love to have a defensive combo of Bynum, Battier, and Kobe.

Odom would help the Rockets on the boards, but he would need to fit in Adelman's offense. If he does, I would expect to see these 2 teams in the 09 WCF.

Maximum cash considerations is $3 million. It doesn't count towards matching salaries. It's something extra to sweeten a deal.

    1) Steve Francis picks up his player option.

    2) Resign Dikembe Mutombo for the veteran minimum.

    3) Trade Shane Battier & Chuck Hayes to the Memphis Grizzlies for Mike Miller.

    4) Trade Luther Head & a future second round draft pick to the Orlando Magic for JJ Redick.

    5) Trade Rafer Alston, Bobby Jackson, & our 2008 (25th) draft pick to the Chicago Bulls for Kirk Hinrich.

    6) Sign Gerald Green to a non-guaranteed contract, one year.

    7) Sign Ricky Davis for 4.5 million, 2 years (MLE).

    8) Waive Loren Woods.

    Houston: 2008-09 Depth Chart
    1) Kirk Hinrich / Steve Francis / Aaron Brooks
    2) Tracy McGrady / JJ Redick / Gerald Green
    3) Mike Miller / Ricky Davis / Steve Novak
    4) Luis Scola / Carl Landry / Mike Harris
    5) Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutombo

I wouldn't give up Battier for Miller let alone with another player. Miller isn't that good on defense, in fact some people consider him a liability on defense. Not worth as much to us as how vital Battier is to us.
Why would they want Battier anyways?! They are rebuilding!...and they just wanna dump salary...Bobby Jackson is way more likely to make a deal for Miller.

Why would you want JJ Redick? Whats he done that made you say: wow lets grab him for the Rockets. Lateral moves are pointless sometimes and this is one such case. I'd rather have my 2nd round pick thanks.

Plus---get this: Luther will be packaged in a deal! not by himself. We'd be lucky to get a 2nd round pick in return for Luther alone.
Noooo...Disagree...Kirk Hinrich has bloated salary......And we have to give up that much him??!!! Bobby Jackson is like our best trade piece and I don't want to have to package him with our starter PG and our backup SG for someone not that big an improvement than the starter PG we already have.

To be honest I really would like Hinrich for our team, but certainly not that much. I'd love for Andre Miller to come to Houston though.

    That I agree with.

Whatever we do this off-season---Sign Gerald Green to a contract! Guaranteed or Not Guaranteed...Sign him!!

Reading analysis on this guy just makes me drool:
    18) Boston Gerald Green/SF 6-7 195 Gulf Academy/HS.

The Celtics must have had the luck of the Irish to get Green. For some reason, he just fell into Boston’s lap a la Paul Pierce. Green may be young, but he could eventually be the BEST player in the entire draft. The Houston native looks like a young McGrady. Celtics’ GM Danny Ainge has built a nice nucleus in Beantown.

    From hoopshype.com analysis

What do they do? Pray they don't get injured. I believe we can contend with this team, everyone is quick to jump on a team that just completely changed coaching styles and lost an All Star center in the midst of a great streak. The core will stay the same, with any luck we'll dump Head for someone decent, I don't replacing Rafer a top priority unless you would agree that there isn't much we need to do, in that case he is the top priority on a short list. Say I'm crazy, give this team a little practice and healthy playing time and we'll be aight!

That is not analysis. That is out-dated speculation that has not even come close to coming true.

I hope Morey does not trade away our draft pick. I want to see if he can find another Landry in the draft.

    Worst defensive wing collection ever?

This idea might fly with D'Antoni or Nelson as our coach.

I dont know if I should put this in the Battier/Turkeyglue thread or the Micheal Redd thread so I guess Ill put it here. Im sure Morey is trying to get into the discussions for some of these players mentioned

Hmmm...Looks like Turkeyglu for Maggette. I wonder if Battier could get us either Jefferson or Maggette. I wonder how credible this guy is and who his sources are? Looks like hes been in the sports biz for a while but hes in Utah now so maybe he cant be trusted :p

I don't care how great your plan is, you don't make a trade that lop-sided in the other team's favor. If Step 5 doesn't work out, you've now gotten significantly worse.

What about this deal? This seems to make sense to me, although its a tough decision.

    Rockets trade:
    Shane Battier
    Bobby Jackson
    Luther Head
    25th pick

    Bobcats trade:
    Jason Richardson
    Jared Dudley
    #9 Draft pick

I would seriously consider it, but I don't think the Bobcats would.

    Uhhh...that's highway robbery.

I've always been a huge advocate of hanging on to Battier but if you're talking him being the only player of significance we give up all for J-Rich, Dudley and the #9 pick (Russell Westbrook) then you've definitely broke me down.

I can vividly remember Jason Richardson being pissed he was moved to the Bobcats on draft night, last year. The Bobcats need some veteren leadership. Battier and Jackson would provide the Bobcats with immediate help on defense, as they often get worked on the defense end. Combining Battier with Gerald Wallace, and Okafor could make for one of the better defensive teams in the NBA. Bobby Jackson can give them some good bench work for a team that has had some pretty lackluster pg depth since day one in the organization. I think this makes them a better team. They would easily be more complete.

For the Rockets, this gives them the legit 3rd scorer they have been looking for. Richardson can just plug into the system, as he is a fast paced offensive force, that should do great in the Adelman system. We finally would get a athletic freak at SG. Mcgrady could slide over to the SF postion and keep doing what he has been doing. Jared Dudley was often praised as a defensive stopper. That was his selling point in last years draft. He would be a great addition to the young guys on this team. Imagine how old we looked a few seasons ago. Now we would have Brooks, Dudley, Hayes, Landry, Scola as a nice future investment in the organization.

Jason Richardson should be the guy the Rockets look to go after. His price tag is a little heafty, but easily managable for his ceiling. Remember he brought Golden State to the 2nd round last season past #1 seed Mavericks. We need a guy to put us over the edge.

Ok take away the #9 pic if you think its too much. My point is Jason Ricardson would be a great 3rd option on this team, a upgrade over Battier who often falls asleep on the offensive end, with a managable contract that isnt too ugly.
