It is the opinion of many that the Rockets should trade Yao and/or T-mac for (a) legitimate players who can lead a team and have the ability to sustain their play throughout an NBA season + the playoffs. As long as the Rockets 'continue to build around Yao + Mac,' they will fail. Mcgrady + Rafer + draft picks + whatever else in the hell they can offer for Luol Deng + Kirk Heinrich? Yao + whatever the hell else they can offer for Dwight Howard? Mcgrady for Redd + draft pick(s)? I got nothin.
#1, this thread is about what do we do in the OFFseason. #2, trade yao AFTER he's injured again? smart way of doing business. not that i am advocating a trade, but if you trade, you'd want to do it NOW.
He's something like 38-years-old now. He's got his hardware, done his damage and his best playing days are behind him. Try again?
I'll rank in order of what I think is most important. 1. find an upgrade at the point 2. find a third legitimate scoring option 3. find a big man that can back up Yao, so he can player fewer minutes That's how I see it, anyway.
I find it slightly humorous how most of you can be so cavalier when posed with the notion of breaking up the Yao-Mcgrady combination. It is not going to work. Too much salary is tied up in them to build a successful team-- because two guys just can't do it-- around them. Thus there isn't anybody worth a damn on the bench when they go down with a foot or a back or a mental/ego problem. I think its time to call it like it is, admit this plan failed to meet expectations, and move on to something potentially bigger and better.
omg, in another thread, someone is still trying to get him. wake up guys, it's 2008 and we are talking about 2009.
If Minny picks Mayo like their fans want them to do. I say we try to offer them Head + a future 1st for Mccants. Mccants will be the odd man out so they get a 1st for him and Head as insurance for the minutes left at sg. Mccants is undersized at 6'4 and I know I said I don't want more undersized guys , but he is a bull , he is undersized but strong and an aggressive player. I like him. The way I see it Head is useless so it's essentially like we get Mccants with the 25th pick of the draft. I like this trade a lot.
I don't want an undersized SG either unless it's Gordon or Ellis but McCants is a pretty good player and McHale is dumb.
McCants is not much of a passer and is pretty damn turnover-prone, but he can shoot and has an aggressive/nasty streak in him that Head does not have. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tn6C4-khm2Q&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tn6C4-khm2Q&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KQwS6SJED40&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KQwS6SJED40&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
If Rox and Minny sit down to deal then PLEASE look into acquiring Ryan Gomes. If Rox deal Battier (to Portland?) then look at Gomes to replace SB.
McCants can shoot better than Head, but he is a negative to his team in just about every other facet of his game. He's a ballhog when he gets in the game; his shot selection would make Tracy McGrady's look like Steve Nash's; and he's a head-case to boot. Just go to his website and you'll see what I mean. Whenever the Rockets played against Minnesota, I remember us making our runs when he was in the game, just by playing off him slightly so he could work his godawful basketball-IQ magic and take just, horrible, shots.
What do you guys think about Battier + Jackson for Lamar Odom? Odom only has 2 years left on his contract, and would resign for something like $40 million for 5 years. He is taller and more athletic than Battier, a decent slasher, way better rebounder, and a decent defender. He could be that ellusive third scorer the Rockets so desperately need. 2008 Playoffs PPG 15.6 RPG 10.70 APG 3.0 EFF + 22.70 Yao Scola Odom T-mac Alston It would really improve our rebounding. I'm sure T-Mac will step up defensively and guard the Kobe's, Hamilton's, and Ray Allen's. I would make this trade if we get a long quick combo guard through the draft to defend while T-Mac sits for 17 minutes a game.
