If I'm not mistaken the last game they played the Blazers both were on the wrong sides of calls and Matt was complaining about the officials not doing their jobs period, not just for the Rockets. Most of the time Bill, Matt, and Clyde do call them out because they are missing calls on us but it seems like during most games even when we had Yao on the floor we were the underdogs that never got the superstar touch fouls that Kobe, Lebron, and Wade get. The Rockets games aren't the only ones were commentators have had issues with officials so its not just on our side.
I agree on the timeouts, but other fouls not being called and some that are doesn't bother me as much as the makeup call that happens right after a bad call. You have the opposing coach/players yelling at the refs on a bad call, wether it was a bad call or not (no matter which side) the next play there is a weak foul call, traveling, double dribble, palming...just something to get the ball back to the team that had the 1st bad call. That pisses me off like you wouldn't believe, if you make a bad call, then you make a bad call, don't do a makeup call on the next play just to give the ball back. Isn't that in a way cheating one team out of a play, what if the game was won by a point by the team that had the 1st bad call and in the attempt of calling the make up call the 2nd team scores but you call an offensive foul (confusing I know) but that is what pisses me off the most with the refs.
Right, but obviously this comes into human error. Refs make bad calls, they have since the beginning of basketball and will continue to the end of basketball, that's just the way things are. It does seem that this year has been worse than other. But come on, they complain about every little call we dont get so of course it's going to seem like the refs are terrible. I'm not saying they arnt terrible, just make up your own mind, don't hang on every word the commentators say.
make up calls annoy me to no end either. Also the stats people use to see if the refs called the game fairly is skewed in my opinion. if i remember correctly I read an article after the recent gambling/ refs thing, that the league or someone went back a few years were Tim was officiating. They checked to see if there were any major variances from one team to the other in terms of fouls but they found none. I think the fact that Refs do make up calls will ultimately hide the fact that Refs can change the outcome of the game. I mean if they did a make up call and Chuck goes to line is different than them missing a call for the other teams superstar....
Ok, I understand that people a little younger than myself are going to have a different way of speaking, but seriously....is that even english anymore? How is that easier to type than just the straight forward message?? Is typing "deirs" really that much easier than typing "there's"? Ok, end rant.
Let's not forget the Scola pass for a fast break layup that was waved off because a ref called a kickball. That was ridiculous. Fortunately, we scored on the followup in-bounds play. At any rate, I have noticed a much lower quality of officiating this season. And it's been on both sides. I've seen more makeup calls than I care to ever see. It seems to me that if a ref sees a foul, he should call it, but only then should he call it. He shouldn't anticipate a foul when there isn't one. Maybe refs have so much pressure on them to call fouls immediately that they sacrifice accuracy for speed now. But I really do have to wonder if the refs perhaps didn't have the same off-season training that they may normally have due to their earlier dispute with the league. Because it is a noticeable decline in quality. I'm also pretty sure that the replacement refs showed no higher quality when they were used, and that they tended to fall back to a more conservative stance of calling anything that could have even been thought of as a foul.
maybe we should get some college referees in the nba. i think consistency is the most important things...
