That's fair - but is he any worse than the other options? Marisnick has a 0.450 OPS or something absurd. Gattis is under 0.600. If Stassi is, in any way, being considered as a primary catcher next year, he needs to be better than that. These are below-replacement level numbers for their respective positions, meaning you should literally be able to call up some random AAA player and duplicate what Marisnick/Gattis are doing. If Stassi can't do that, he has no business being on the roster and Gattis should just play the role of mediocre backup catcher. Marisnick at least has a defensive and PR role, but if Gattis can't hit and he's not allowed to catch, he has literally no role at all. All told, there's no way all 3 of these guys should be on the roster if Stassi is that bad a hitter.
The good news is that all the division leaders are losing, or have lost. Losing 7 games at home is too many for a division leader and losing to a team that was using relief pitchers after the 1st inning is disappointing. Time for the other Beard to show up.
Do not disrespect Adam Everett like that. He was a career .240 hitter with a .640 OPS. Gattis is hitting .193 with a .561 OPS.
Oh that’s right. DK gets the ball tomorrow. There was a time I would be like “whew”. Now I am like “gulp”. Series gonna go to 1-2 good guys.
Not at all. But I should have. Stassi is the backup catcher this year, and I hope he's doing it again next year. I'm not totally sure what you want him to be. Part time DH? He's not that good a hitter. White/Davis/Kemp? I'm done with Gattis, there has to be....HAS to be a better option. I'd keep Jake just for defense, or Fisher, one or the other.
Is it bad that I didnt ev en play it cause I didnt want to hear his voice? Also funny that McHugh's(one of the quietest guys) locker is right next to one of the most "fiery" guys.
It’s the DH position. Glove not a concern. We all know why Adam was a pro and it wasn’t his speed. Gattis is like having a slow adam everett at DH.
Why is there no delay for the postgame show ? Two callers cussed and had to be ousted before finishing their thoughts.
Yeah, I thought I made that clear. Stassi is a great catcher. There's no reason to carry a fulltime DH. As much as I love Gattis, he is ****ing worthless.
Luhnow is allergic to eating salary. That's the only excuse to continue to carry Gattis, Sipp, and Marisnick on this roster. That's 14.6 million in salary with garbage production.
I'm OK jettisoning either Gattis or Stassi. If you keep Gattis, you get a mediocre catcher, but one that has a solid history of hitting when playing the field, and he can be a functional pinch-hitter when needed. If you keep Stassi, you get a better backup catcher, but can't really use him as a pinch hitter, so he's worthless on days he's not catching. Personally, I would pick Gattis - simply because it worked well last year and gives us more flexibility, but I'm OK with Stassi. But Gattis is not good enough to be a DH, so this is just the worst option. Either use him as super-flexible backup C and jettison Stassi, or jettison Gattis.
Here's what scares me. Remember when we had Carlos Gomez in 2016 when he was terrible? The Astros gave him 295 ABs before giving up on him when he was hitting .210 with a .594 OPS. Gattis only has 83 ABs. This could be a long slow death....
Uh...You keep a backup catcher (Stassi) just like every team has done in the history of baseball. Whatever you want to do with Gattis at that point, that's up to you. I see no reason to keep, like I said, keep a designated DH, 3rd catcher.
