Just don't have the hitting talent. I hate losing to flukey teams on heaters, but that the Astros even won their division with all the injuries and disappointments makes any postseason success a cherry. It's kind of sad, but this is the first October in a long while where I have no real expectations. I'd love to see an Altuve-led magical run, but looking at the roster, I think it would actually take some sort of magic.
I really like this gritty Mets team. I wish we had grit. We're kinda the opposite of that. Listless is more apt.
Obviously hoping for better results the next two outings but I can't help shake this feeling that the baseball gods are about to dish out some baseball justice and have AJ Hinch be the one to end the Astros ALCS run.
I can't get worked up about the Astros when the Astros can't be bothered to show up. They don't take anything seriously, why should I?
I only follow the Astros in September & October in this here golden era, but it seems like the run is ending The simple narrative I have in my head is that Jim Crane - like many rich and powerful older dudes - started believing his shi-t didn't stink, and fantasy GM'd his way into the end of an era quicker than it otherwise would have (though would have ended anyway) - but someone tell me if that's wrong
Anybody has the W-L at home since the 2017 playoffs? Definitely below .500, just curious if it's close to .400. My guess is it's not as bad as it seems. Probably .460-.475. Still dreadful, however. 2018 - heading back to Houston with chance to close out the series vs Boston, lose all 3 instead. Benintendi decided that series with that catch. I'll forever blame Hinch for putting in that God awful Josh James who shouldn't have even been on the post season roster. 2019 - lose all 4 at home. Embarrassing to blow that World Series. I consider that the greatest team of all time not to win a World Series. The 2 Cy Young pitchers (both deserved it) go 1-3 in the WS. Yikes. 2023 - Astros become only 2nd team to lose a 7 game series in the playoffs in which you didn't win any of the 4 games at home. Sadly, they were also the first to do it. 2024 - Inauspicious start to the playoffs. Hopefully the home curse ends.
Had to wash out the bad taste of that game by throwing a combined no-hitter in The Show. The other person was playing with the Yanks too.
The alternative was Pena up in a double play spot. I don’t hate the decision at all. And we were inches away from a line drive tying the game
Yep you and I are simpatico on this one. No excuses. Shell these Tiger starters. Make them use their bullpen for 5+ or 6+ innings. Well be interesting to see how Hinch handles his pitching staff if they are in a 1 or 2 run deficit (or even tied past the 5th inning). Does he go all out to try to end it putting his staff in jeopardy for game 3 when an even more dubious pitcher is starting. There is your chess match.
It's basically the same lineup as '22. No team has nine 750+ OPS guys in the lineup. McCormick should definitely start over Meyers tomorrow (and beyond) though. Astros really just need stop having 20% of the luck while the opponent gets the other 80.
Baseball justice for the guy who didn't stop the cheating, and who was probably ordered by the commission to be fired by the owner? The Astros should have won in 2019 and probably last year too. Any more baseball god justice really just means spitting in Houston's face.
