Good win to offset a somewhat struggling stretch of baseball for HOU. Kuekhel is ballin Carter is heating up
Its not great, but it is good, if you consider "average" as "good". If he was .783 OPS for the season he would be the 6th best 1B in AL, or the 16th in MLB. Its not like he is being sent down to AAA. So we'd have to trade him to bring Jon up...which means roll the dice on Carter heating up to generate some value first.
Well... I would consider above average good and average... average? I think so would most normal people. And he is really just approaching average. So with constraints on only him, he is average compared to guys who have no constraints. Without constraints he is dead last still. I feel like I am beating a dead horse here but it will all be moot when he stays in the bottom 5 for the duration of the season.
Jeeez Villar back in the lineup again today I know someone can come up with some advanced stats showing he is the 8th best player of all time or something like that But personally, i'm sick of watching this guy butcher the game Loved Dierker on the radio yesterday, after two Villar errors when he finally made a throw to first on target, Dierk says "whoa, Villar threw it right to Carter" Loved Dierk as a broadcaster....and manager...and pitcher
It was also not that long ago that the Astros drew worse ratings than Cosby Show reruns. ROOT alone was big reason but winning sure as hell doesn't hurt.
Serious drainage issues on the concourse is what I read, not uncommon after a flood. You can see the water coming up out of the drains in a couple of those pictures. Didn't see Villar's first error yesterday, I'm sure it was terrible, but the second one was a throw that a good HS first baseman would have caught, wasn't a great throw, but Carter just misjudged it.
He is playings, and i predicted he was going to play in the 3 games, because he hits lefties pretty well. Now, PLEASE, Sub him at the end of games for defensive purpose, PLEASE
100 hundred dollar arm with a .50 cent mind (Villar). Why he continues to butcher that easy plays, NO IDEA
It was a horrible throw... one that little-leaguers make routinely. That typifies Villar, though... it was as routine as routine plays go... and he butchered the throw. The more routine the play is, the more awful he becomes... and that's not something teams can withstand on a full-time basis.
Pretty excited to finally go to my first game this season. Really hoping for a good win and getting some new Astros gear. Edit: btw I'm not just some fare weather fan, I followed them the last few years as well and went to games but this year is actually much more exciting because we are competitive.
I'm glad this Dankush guy wasn't around for the Comcast threads. Holy hell. Hate that Villar keeps shooting himself in the foot. Ever time I think he's a good utility guy, he proves the exact opposite by failing to throw out a Geovany Soto on a sharp line drive. Correa callup can't happen soon enough.
Nice attempt at knocking sabermetrics. If you interpet them correctly which you cant apparently because they dont say what you want them to, they say Villar has been a replacement level player.
