Coaching was just questionable yesterday all around. From playcalling, time management, and failure to make a surefire challenge.
I get that he isn’t gonna be perfect, but honestly, for the expectations on him, I expected him to at least be closer to perfect than he has been.. beat deep by Boutte last week, gave up a slant on a big 3rd down this week. Just not the lockdown I thought he was. And that’s not to say he isn’t or hasn’t been good, just not the absolute shutdown island I thought he would be.
Man, watching the Ravens and thinking about our game on Xmas, we are not anywhere near there level nor at the Chiefs level. Last year we had no expectations and this year we have HUGE expectations........I may need to tamper down my own expectations down, as another poster mentioned, we may have the talent to win the division but not much more than that, which to be honest is fine as long as we are growing and learning week to week, we need to work the kinks out and bolster several position groups. If we don't fix the O Line issues CJ is going to struggle, not much we can do this year outside of a tweak here or there, but I wish they would start with K Green and sit him down, Fisher can't do worse.
I get it and feel somewhat similarly, but my perspective gives me some hope because we have a defense full of dogs and thumpers. We should be in every game we play when our defense is locked in. As I've been rewatching some of our games and wondering how to get the offense going knowing full well that the OL is a huge problem I am falling back on the lack of underneath routes and actual safety installs within our plays. I think if we can take a step back and remain true to the system that we can account for the problems on the OL while that unit sorts out the personnel and assignments simply by using short passing to our advantage. It was crazy to see Baltimore bait TB into blitzing only to run GREAT screen plays. We need more sticks, hitches and shallow crosses to go along with some well executed screens. Im reminded of the OBrien route tree when I watch the last few games with long developing plays. Things will also get WAY better when Nico comes back. He is the only guy who seems to have those rhythm routes down with CJ PLUS he is CJs security blanket when things break down. Today it doesnt seem like we belong, but things change fast in the NFL. I want to believe that DeMeco is going to light a fire under everyone's ass and get this thing straightened out before we play those juggernauts.
This is still irking me the most out of everything from Sunday's game. If you get beat, you get beat. But man, we have suffered as fans through O'Brien and a smattering of bonehead and questionable coaching decisions since this team's inception. Different franchise, but Dusty Baker in 2023 still keeps me up at night. I'm exhausted. I thought that finally we had the staff that at a minimum, can at least execute a good game plan and make smart, real time decisions. That's all I want damnit. Save us from the head scratching bulls***, please. I can't take it anymore.
This is exactly what I was talking about. CJ absolutely can make adjustments to prevent it from being a disaster. We need the best player on the team to be the best player on the team. That being said, yeah **** the offensive line.
Not being able to pickup/read any sort of blitzes is something CJ has to fix. Again, it's the little things that the Texans get wrong that cause these losses. Can't have those if we expect to go far in the playoffs.
Just a weird take. CJ was number one in the NFL against pressure pre Packers game. Also, he doesn't have protection calls and isn't required to go hot if a team is only rushing 4. Not being able to pick up a 4 man rush with 6 guys is a coaching issue and not something that is on CJ. Do you expect him to stare at the rush because he shouldn't trust a 6 man protection? What are we talking about.
Agreed. Like I get it if there is always a free rusher and you’re sending your RB hot. But if you have 5 to protect against 4 and somehow there is a free rusher, that’s not on the QB, that’s on a lineman missing his assignment.. CJ shouldn’t have to hold hands through basic non-blitzing protections.
