It isn’t if you aren’t even sure if Dameon Pierce can be a viable backup. He looked good on very limited opportunities in week 1.
Texans whole franchise is historically weak with drafting running backs. Its weird. To this day, Ben Tate is their highest drafted RB Since '10, Texans have drafted only 3 RB's past the SIXTH round. 1 third & 2 fourth rounders (including Pierce). Longest career of all their drafted RB's is Alfred Blue. Theyve had some free agent pickups & trades. But its like a complacency of "Arian Foster was undrafted" still hangs over the franchise.
Wasn't able to watch the first half, but I got home at half time to see us get 3 and then it was like the Bills adjustments kicked in and we had a bad 3rd quarter. The penalty on Petrie was just stupid, same as the Dalton penalty, we just shoot ourselves in the foot at times. CJ looked calm cool and collected going into the 4th even though he was running for his life on most plays..............it wasn't pretty but man I will take it to go 4-1, these are the types of games good teams win and Ka`imi is just clutch, he is our MVP to date. I hate putting it on a kicker at the end of the game but dam he is good, when he kicked it it started going left and then like a great golf shot it hooked to the right and straight through...............the odd part as a fan I was CONFIDENT they would pull it out......................what a new feeling that was. Now on to NE where this feels like a trap game. I didn't see Tank get called on today very much but I didn't see the first half
I really don’t think it’s an awesome running back room, but it should be good enough to have a viable, non sloppy run game if the execution wasn’t lacking.
Yeah I mean we don’t necessarily need to spend a super high pick on running backs, but there have been multiple opportunities to snag good backs in the second round and we’ve gone elsewhere. Also, if nothing else, churn the roster at that position, running back is one of the easiest positions to fill with depth, it really is. I am interested to see how Pierce looks this year if we can ever get him on the field, he looked like maybe he figured out some things week 1, but it was like three carries against a poor rushing defense. Still, he’s a talented runner, I hope he can eventually find his way in this system, bc a viable Pierce as a backup to Mixon would really, really unlock this offense.
Woods is a vet. He should know better. Woods made up for his mistake with the big punt return to help setup the GW FG.
Fairbairn has been an absolute weapon, but the rest of the special teams play has been pretty sloppy. I think it might be time to start working out some punters too, Townsend has been a huge disappointment so far. He shanks one per game and he has yet to effectively flip field position.
CJ had the worst quarter performance of his Texans tenure in that 4th quarter. However the fact they still pulled it out at the end speaks volumes for this team. A win is a win. And we’re not even close to the team we can be once everyone is healthy and starts gelling.
