Boy, 12, Is Fatally Shot by Owner of Stolen Car in Denver, Police Say
The boy was in the car when the vehicle’s owner found it using an app and “exchanged fire” with the people inside, the police said.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/11/us/denver-shooting-boy-stolen-car.html?smid=url-share

    excerpt:

Jamie Torres, a Denver city councilwoman, said she was “heartbroken” that the boy had died, the television news station KUSA reported.

“I know auto theft is a growing issue, not just in Denver but everywhere, and it’s infuriating to be victimized like that,” Ms. Torres said. “But I discourage any resident to taking a vigilante approach.”

It’s funny how the the pro criminal non contributor members are so silent on condemning criminal conduct …here are Hispanic people of color. Working , doing something very worthwhile and great members of society being targeted. Heck no. Get the truck back today is what they need !

I'm not so sure why there are so many responses to my own post but I absolutely stand by it. Yes there are situations where self-defense even lethal force is required. There are also situations where you shouldn't go out looking to enforce the law and it can lead to a lot of danger both physical and legal.
    For example:

D.C. Vigilante Who Killed 13-Year-Old Karon Blake Has Been Charged With Second-Degree Murder

The vigilante responsible for the death of 13-year-old Karon Blake is in police custody after turning himself in on Tuesday morning.

According to an NBC News report, Jason Lewis is the Washington, D.C., employee involved in the fatal shooting of the middle school student and has been charged with second-degree murder.

The post D.C. Vigilante Who Killed 13-Year-Old Karon Blake Has Been Charged With Second-Degree Murder appeared first on Blavity.

As Blavity noted, Blake was shot multiple times not far from Brookland Middle School, where he attended, in the early hours of Jan. 4.

Lewis claimed he confronted Blake because he believed the teenager was breaking into cars in his neighborhood. As police arrived, the man performed CPR, but the 13-year-old died from his injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department shared that Lewis has cooperated with authorities throughout the investigation.

Attorney Lee Smith, who Lewis retained, made a statement claiming his innocence and that when the court hears the case, it will see that his client’s intention was never to take Blake’s life.

NBC Washington reports that according to court documents, Blake yelled, “I’m only a kid,” “I’m sorry,” and “I am only 12” before Lewis shot him.

This incident sparked outrage from area residents because they believe the confrontation shouldn’t have resulted in someone losing their life as material things like cars have no heartbeat. Residents were also upset because police did not immediately identify Lewis.

Shortly after the incident gained nationwide attention Police Chief Robert J. Contee III said the incident was unfortunate.

“We have a 13-year-old that died, and we don’t have all of the facts,” Contee told NBC News. “And the people who are responsible for gathering the facts and making charging decisions are doing it just as fast as possible.”

I’ve had a car stolen and understand how frustrating it is. But pursuing it and firing shots driving down a busy street with cops around could have gone bad a million different ways. Innocents could have been hurt, the cops could have shot him or his son, they could have gotten into an accident, etc. They still could face charges for reckless endangerment or who knows what.

There’s been plenty of stories of people firing back when being robbed and a bystander getting shot and killed.

I hate thieves with a passion but your truck or wallet isn’t worth the risk.

That'd probably be legal in Texas since it appears to be at night.

I'm curious to survey how people would feel if it was an adult stealing catalytic converters at night. From what I recall, most people cheer when those thieves are shot.

Of course, vigilante justice isn't ideal. You want the police to handle criminal encounters. But as we've seen, our police force is getting more and more ineffective and sometimes criminal themselves. So what is the solution?

Thirteen year olds can kill adults, if they were armed and got shot then it’s justified

    the most person is you
    Not them

Here is the same scenario except the teenage burglar shoots and kills the victim.

I'd rather have the scenario in DC where the victim is alive.
