Way too early to knee-jerk and call him a bust, but I will say he is not a lock for rookie of the year and I think his offense is going to take some time to develop.
Lots of scouts said he was the best prospect they've ever seen in their lives. There were articles saying he would change the Spurs day 1. Personally I think Wemby would be pretty good, but I knew he wouldn't dominate the league day 1 cuz he is too thin. To dominate the league you need to be a thick boy like Lebron, Zion, Shaq etc
Did Durant start dominating since year 2 or year 3? Nonetheless i think he dominated for a time when he was still rail thin, didn't he?
Yeah but KD was always seen as a wing player right? Wembanyama is a big man so it is different for him unless he says he is the next Dirk snd starts camping at the 3 pt line every play.
Though, the league is not that physical nowadays. Players are so protected, especially the marketable ones. Advantage to Wembanyama.
I honestly think that's a myth just see all these players missing time due to injury there's a lot more nowadays than before. Yeah players are more protected but since everyone is such a freak athlete contact injuries happen a lot.
I'm super high on Wemby and this first game from him is exactly what I expected to be. It will take a bit longer for him to showcase his full skillset since strength is an issue. And he'll get posterized a lot during his career, like Alonzo Mourning. Just a part of the job of being a relentless rim protector. It will soon become a badge of honor to posterize Wemby.
It is good for the league to have unpredictable winners, have multiple great young players. I agree fully that it would take Wemby some time to get situated.
The instinctual stuff are right there off the bat like his 8 rebounds 3 assists and 5 blocks in limited time. He was just so hyped up that any deficiencies would be magnified to immense proportions. His main objective is not to get injured.
Love Sengun, but I'd trade him in a milisecond for Wemby Heck, take Sengun, Jalen and Jabari, and let me build around Amen & Wemby.
That's crazy. Literally the only thing Wemby has on Sengun is height, and actually, except for getting some more blocks, that's a disadvantage for Wemby. Wemby looks like a slightly more skilled Shawn Bradley out there. I predict that Sengun will be better than Wemby in every single statistical category, except blocks. Also, Wemby will get dunked on all the time, and he will get hurt. He will have a much shorter career. Sengun vs. Wemby will be like Hakeem vs. David Robinson 2.0. Alpi will bamboozle Wemby.
He'll be fine, but boy did he get baptized by Kai Jones in several ways. Kai is not even close to the most physical athlete and any body contact gave Wemby fits. Kai took his lunch money, rip him clean and pulled the chair + that dunk. Yeah, welcome to the NBA Summer League Victor!
Not blocks, but rim protection in general. Wemby projects to be an elite rim-protector. Not just gobble up a bunch of blocks, but also affect everyone's shots even without blocking them. I think it's very likely that he'll be a better shooter as well. Wemby is also a very good passer, really takes advantage of his height, though Sengun is better in that regard and certainly much flashier. Sengun is also a far superior post-up player, but post-ups in general have been proven to be one of the least efficient methods of generating offense, so it's whatever. If Sengun vs Wemby = Hakeem vs Robinson, then both the Rockets and Spurs franchises will be extremely happy about that. But in reality, I think both players are still very, very, very, very, very far from even approaching those comparisons.
Wemby will be as good as a rim protector as Shawn Bradley was. Lots of blocks, but will get pushed out of the paint, people will spin around him and dunk on him. And I'm willing to take a bet that his FG% will be much lower than Alpi's. And his 3-point % as well.
