This is the overhyped, let me try and cherrypick stats nonsense that is irritating. Harden was deadly with the step-back three because he was hitting 37% of them while taking around 13 a night. He shot 36% overall on 3's that season. Wemby only takes 6 three's a night. He only makes 33% of them, so if he's making 46% on step-backs but only shooting 33% overall then his sample size is clearly small. Harden was impossible to guard because he could hit that high % on that volume while also getting 11 ft's a night. The 7'5 center only takes 5 ft's a night. Harden had elite efficiency. Wemby doesn't. This is the most idiotic comparison ever.
I don't have a dog in the fight but was also curious on volume. They can be found here: Wemby 24 of 52 step backs https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1641705/shooting Harden 70 of 190 step backs https://www.nba.com/stats/player/201935/shooting ~36.8-37% is still solid and Harden taken lot more this season. There are guys like Luka who takes even more.
ROY doesn't get any more anticlimactic than this. Victor was a much better offensive player than I expected this year. He was everything I expected on defense, and more. Next season, he might average 30/10, improve his efficiency and still not be in the MVP race because the Spurs won't win enough games.
If he does all that why won't Spurs win enough games? Crazy how winning more than 20 was never a question for LeBron, TD etc. Everybody blames the cast but the Spurs also won the same amount of games the year before.
