Staying in office for more than two terms is unconstitutional but given what has happened the last few years I don’t think it’s completely out of the realm of possibility especially for a politician like Trump. Here’s how I could see it happening: 1. The USSC accepts Trump’s argument that President has broad immunity for actions while President. 2. It’s January the last year of a President’s second term. The president decides not to step down and declares martial law in DC with the aim of preventing the swearing in of the next President. 3. Congress attempts to impeach the Presiden but because the President is popular in his party impeachment and removal fails. 4. Under the immunity precedent set by the USSC the president cannot be criminally charged. 5. Following the Colorado 14th Amendment ruling the President cannot be disqualified from office without Congress acting. So a Constitutional crisis happens with the executive clearly violating the Constituton but the Judicial branch cannot act because of previous rulings requiring Congress to act and Congress cannot act because of political reasons.
