Can we compare MJ and Kobe? Kobe is clearly better because MJ can't even play anymore, right? People argue tmac was the best in his prime, you may disagree, but it's not as outlandish as you make it seem.

Hawks are gonna be my sleeper play-off team to watch on TV next year. T-Mac and Gilbert Arenas teaming up with Horford and J Smith?

I compare an entire body of work, not a point in time.

you realize that the problem with your argument is Tracy McGrady himself,
if he had actually accomplished something, a MVP, conference finals,... freaking anything, you have a valid argument.

but since the accomplishment, team wise, and individual wise is lacking , you have to resort to hypothetical situations or a small window in time.

You do know, people talk about what happens at a particular time right. If people only care about an entire body of work, why the hell do you have individual highlights every damn game? Why don't you just wait until the season is over and talk about a player/team?

TMAC for major stretches over several seasons was "arguably" the best player in the league. And for long stretches over a 5-6 year period, he was a clear-cut top 5 player in the league. That's undeniable.

And within your parameters he is not a great player. Ok, we heard you like 4 years ago. However, in sports players do break down, some players take it to the hole to much and wear down faster, some have injuries, some are lucky, you can't make everything equal. So people have every right to compare players in their prime. Some players go years in the league without doing crap, then they turn into pretty good players their last few years. Do you just average their season averages to determine how good of a player they were? If that's how you want to define your study, yes. However, some want to talk about players at their peak performance. There is nothing wrong with that, mcgrady was at his peak for 3-5 years. Kobe was at his peak for maybe 5-7 years. MJ for maybe 8 or 9. Players don't stay dominant for their entire careers, they just pick up things and have others around them that allow them to keep winning and keep looking good. Not saying that kobe or mj aren't good, but that they, like every player, had a peak performance, and it is not that ridiculous to compare players at their peak performances.

    a 7x all star
    7x all nba player
    2 time scoring champ
    most improved player

We know he didn't win it all, we know he didn't make it past the first round, but that doesn't define a players talent. There are 82 games before the post season.

I'll give you that. I won't give you that he was better than Kobe or LeBron or anywhere the impact player of a Shaq or Duncan.

I know all of this. I'm never implying that he was a crap player. I'm just implying he's not better than what some people think he is here and doesn't deserve anything he hasn't earned.

He is not better now? Or was never arguably better?

And you do imply that he is a crap player, you constantly barrade the guy for his playoff woes, as if his individual play isn't enough to define his talent.

You realize it takes more than individual play right?

you need to have a good relationship with your teammates.
you need to have a good relationship with your coach.
you need to have a good relationship with the organization.

He deserves it for his playoff woes. It's not like it's one season, it's an entire career. That completely defines him, a guy who has all the skill in the world, but no team playoff success. The Rockets paid him $25 million bucks a year, they didn't pay him for playoff failure.
