How is the parking situation? I will be going to my first game at Toyota Center tonight.

Hey Stack--What is the deal you offer again? I know you've probably posted it ad nauseam---but I can't seem to find it on any of the other posts. Since I am hanging around after work I'll probably come next door for some dinner and drinks before I head over to TC.

If anyone knows the best way I can get over there from Live that would help out too! Lightrail? Trolley?

I have yet to pay for parking at a game. I usually park about 3 blocks out on the street.

Or maybe they should encourage those corporations to sell or donate their tickets if they know nobody will be using them. It is so embarrassing to see so many blocks of empty seats in the lower bowl. If I were the Rockets, I'd want to see those sections full when the camera goes by. Wouldn't it be better to see those seats filled by the Mo Betta Bunch or any of those other kids/family charities that they already give tickets to? Or at least they could have some kind of stand by system where, if they were no-shows by the fourth quarter, you could move into those seats for a nominal charge.

The couple of times I've gone, I've been handed the tickets with a parking pass.

I'm going in a couple of weeks and will need to park on the street.

What is the safest, easiest place to park around the arena? I don't work downtown so I'm not really familiar with that part of downtown.

I know that a ticket exchange system has been suggested to the Rockets. This would be particularly effective for corporate types.

I really like the idea of the fourth quarter charge to sit in the seats, but I'm guessing it would be a logistical nightmare. Imagine if 2000 people showed up to get into the club seats. How do you even know that a seat is empty permanently or the guy just got up to use the bathroom?

jeff.. would it even be legal?

I think there'd be just as many complaints about the rockets selling the same seat TWICE

You purchase the seat for the whole game.. so I dont know if they'd have the legal right to sell it to someone else in middle of game

If it's legal for the Cubs to sell tickets to what will certainly be sold out games to a ticket scalping company they own, who then jack up the price, then I can't imagine how Jeff's idea would be illegal. Of course, like someone already pointed out, it'd be a logistical nightmare.

Yeah, it's weird...When I saw a game in Memphis the other night, these people didn't even show up until the 3rd quarter. And I don't think they were sneaking into my section, because it was one of the worst in the entire arena, only a few rows from the top.

Yeah , I suppose that would pose some challenges to say the least. I guess they don't really have any way of knowing (short of manually searching through the stubs) whether or not the ticket for a particular seat has been redeemed, and a first come first serve system could get ugly.

Shouldn't be that hard. They don't do stubs if I remember correctly. IT's done witha PDA/scanner,like at Texans games. I'm sure all the PDAs are connected wirelessly to some Matrix-like computer that tells you what tickets have shown and which haven't.

Yeah, for the whole game, but not for people who leave at halftime.

I think the Rockets made a HUGE miscalculation by isolating the club seats like they did. There is now this giant area of seats right in the line of the cameras that are often empty because people are in the club or didn't show up. Normally, those seats tend to fill up toward the end of the game with people who sneak down there, but they can't do that since the seats are isolated and the doors are watched by ticket takers.

It's great that their club is nice and that they are making money off of those seats, but it sure looks horrible when those things are empty in the 4th quarter of a close game.

I just don't think they realized how bad it would look on camera let alone in person or how much it could effect the game given that most of the noise now has to be generated from seats furthest from the floor.

I think I'm the only person who hates the Toyota Center. As a life long houstonian I loved the summit. I knew where everything was, had a pet parking space and could usually move down to an unoccupied seat at half time. The food at the summit was much better and you could get a real coke not that pepsi crap they are pushing. Also the blinking flashing ads that keep going all the time are annoying and distracting. I also liked the hustle board at the summit.

At the summit I attended 25-30 games a year. Last year I went to 5 because I enjoyed watching more from home than in person at TC. Anyway... I hope my outlook changes after attending the games tonight and thurdsay.

Yeah, I really miss that aspect of the Compaq center. I did that quite a few times and only got called out by the actual ticket holders once. Even then, we just scooted over a few seats.

There are alot of people who showup just to say "I was at the game". I've had friends show up at Astros games in the 6th inning and leave after a couple of innings. It's just like the people who leave at halftime...

I liked the Summit, but I really prefer the Toyota Center. It sounded HORRIFIC in the Summit. When I saw the Rockets (and listened to the announcers) or saw concerts there, it was sometimes ear piercing. It sounds so much better in the new building and that is a biggie for me.

As for the food, speaking as a vegetarian I can say that I am LOVE the food at the new building. At the old building, I was relegated to cheese pizza (if they had it), french fries and that was about it.

So Jeff, do you think they will address the issue of the emtpy club seats?

This is the second year now that this has happened. I just think it's hilarious that the Rockets calendars have the club areas marked as "sold out" yet they barely reach 75% capacity even during the most high profile games.

Maybe since there seems to be an abundance of unsold luxury seats they could move some of the club seat half-assers up there and open up for sale some of the club seats at a reduced.

Hmmmmm... We haven't heard from Tim in a while. I wonder what he has to say about these things.
