I think that might be the very definition of bad coaching. When you have a player with the potential to disrupt games the coach should put him in positions to be effective. You can't blame a player for being played out of position
right? i was for drafting todd gurley (since our qb options are limited) and just hoped we ran the ball the death with foster/gurley and our defense dominating. a kid can dream right?
Clowney needs to play DE and Merci needs to be the OLB. Pretty simple and easy to see. The coaches have 2 weeks to figure it out, lets see what they come up with.
Get back to the 4-3 ...clowney plays DE with Watt. Great ends and continue Whitney's comfort zone and progress
so, according to PFF, that was arguably Watt's best game ever "The front seven was able to consistently put pressure on Mettenberger throughout the game until the very last snap. The rush was led by J.J. Watt (+14.9) who had his best game of the season and also one of, if not the best, games of his entire career. It has to be noted that Watt was up against rookie tackle Jeremiah Poutasi (-6.4) in the first half and was able to take full advantage of the situation. Over the entire game, he recorded 11 total pressures on 39 pass rush snaps as he had three sacks, four quarterback hits and three hurries."

https://www.profootballfocus.com/bl...career-day-for-watt-as-texans-smother-titans/ Spoiler – The Houston defense reacted well to the criticism they received following the ugly loss against Miami last week. The front seven was able to consistently put pressure on Mettenberger throughout the game until the very last snap. The rush was led by DE J.J. Watt (+14.9) who had his best game of the season and also one of, if not the best game of his entire career. It has to be noted that Watt was up against rookie tackle Jeremiah Poutasi (-6.4) in the first half and was able to take full advantage of the situation. Over the entire game, he recorded 11 total pressures on 39 pass rush snaps with three sacks, four quarterback hits and three hurries. – Cornerback Kevin A. Johnson (+2.5) managed to bounce back well after recording the worst grade of his rookie season against Miami last week. Johnson was targeted three times and allowed only one reception for 12 yards and recorded his first interception in the NFL with a passer rating of 6.9. In addition, he earned a positive grade for his run defense due to some solid tackling and aggressive play at the line of scrimmage. – While it may have been quiet by his standards, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (+2.1) had another solid game against Tennessee on Sunday. Hopkins was targeted 11 times, which is tied for the least amount of targets for him this season, but he hauled in all eight catchable passes which included his touchdown reception, the only catchable deep ball thrown towards him all afternoon. Although only 12 of his 94 yards came after the catch, this was mainly due to the fact that most of these receptions occurred close to the sidelines and he was quickly forced out of bounds after catching the football. Top performers: DE J.J. Watt (+14.9) OLB Whitney Mercilus (+4.9) CB Kevin A. Johnson (+3.2) WR DeAndre Hopkins (+2.1) OT Chris Clark (+1.9)
I used to hate it when people did this, but I'm about to do it anyway.... 5 of his TD's (and many of his yards) were in the 2nd halves of the falcons and dolphin games when both teams were up by 40 and in total cruise control mode. To his credit, he certainly hasn't thrown a lot of INTs. 1 of the 3 he's thrown wasn't even his fault (Fedora drop/pick 6).
This is true...but, dont a lot of QBs have garbage time stats that help pad their numbers? I understand what you are saying, no doubt, but I also get the sense that the Texans arent the only ones that benefit from these scenarios.
To give him credit, he has been good Hoyer so far this season. He hasn't cost the team any games. How much longer before we get bad Hoyer?
Well, I'm pretty sure we're the only team to be down by 40 at halftime twice this year. Yippee. To his credit though, he played well yesterday and against the jags. And he's only thrown 3 INTs all year - one of which was the drop by Fedoroloser that turned into a pick-6. Not his fault at all.
I completely disagree, he cost the team the very first game and his awful performance against Miami contributed to that loss.....In fact, the only time he hasn't greatly contributed to losing the game as a starter was against Tennessee and Jacksonville. I fully expect the Texans to lose their next 6 games, and Hoyer's play will be a big factor in all of those losses if he makes it that far uninjured.
what? he was horrible against miami and was not good against KC either. I dont think any one player has cost the team any games specifically. its been a group effort. they all should get credit for playing like ass
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Rahim Moore said it was a shocking moment when they told him (Wednesday), he wasnt going to play.</p>— Adam Wexler (@awexler) <a href="https://twitter.com/awexler/status/661220638229725184">November 2, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Hoyer has played as well as he could based on the circumstances of a shaky OLine...Poor run game, and ONE Stud receiver (including TE's). However, Hoyer's biggest problem has been confidence...The guy is smart, but once his confidence is shot...so is his play. I still want to see how he will be once their is a legit run game. SO far, RBacks lack patience and vision...and the OLine hasnt been consistent on their run blocking schemes. Just as a point to note...2 of the teams that walloped us (ATL, and Dolphins)just received some bad losses. ATL losing to Tampa Bay, and the Dolphins getting pummeled by Brady(who is on a mission for perfection). Hopefully Carolina destroys the Colts...BUT I can never count out Luck...the dude will find a way, even if this was his worst professional season in the NFL.
The whole team was horrible against Miami. You cannot look back at that game and say the reason they lost was because of Hoyer. Maybe if the defense could stop Lamar Miller or Jarvis Landry. Or if the score was 14-0 at half time not 41-0. The KC game is arguable even though the defense made Kelce look like a HOFamer and the offensive line surrendered 5 sacks. Hoyer definitely has not WON any games for his team but you can only argue that he lost one game for his team.
