yeah, i wasn't upset about that at all. it was less chances for slaton to put the ball on the ground, frankly. everytime he had the ball, i was nervous.
IN MY OPINION the problem with Kubiak in this game . . .well at least the last drive You got the ball with 44 seconds . . . GETTING A TD WAS NEVER A THOUGHT! Immediately . .. I think it was all about Tying the game sometimes. .. you gotta take a shot Rocket River "All I got my Balls and my Words" - Scarface
I was watching the game with some friends, and when Slaton had that catch-and-run up to midfield we were cheering--then when someone hit him and he started to grind for one more yard we were all screaming, "hold the ball hold the ball HOLD THE BALLLLL!!!!!!"
Key Stat : Titans QB Vince Young outrushed the Texans 73-57 Time of Possession: 32:19 [not too too bad but . . . ] Red Zone Efficiency: 2/2 - 100% Rocket River get them off the field!
Before that last drive started, the person next to me asked if I was nervous. I told them, worst case scenario it goes to overtime. I knew they were never gonna try for the endzone. I do wish the game had ended without Kris Brown missing that FG, I feel bad for him. Whats ironic is that Fisher coaches/plays the game the same way as Kubiak, plays not to lose, instead of to win.
i think people need to remember the titans were 13-3 last year. i don't know how they started 0-6 any more than i know how the broncos started 6-0 but it's not like they lost to the rams (they get that chance in a few weeks). this loss hurts - but only because they blew the damn jacksonville game. that's the one that's haunting them. BUT... they're still not out of it. i think 10 wins is going to be tough but not impossible. lots of season left.
One thing I noticed while at the game, and I don't know if they showed this on TV or if they didn't, but... at the beginning of the second half, just before the halftime entertainment ended, Jeff Fisher gathered his team and gave them a pep talk ON OUR FIELD. He's a veteran coach that inspires his troops when they need to be inspired, and they responded by scoring more than Houston. I don't see this from Gary Koubiak. I am not saying fire the Texans' coach by any means, I am saying Gary needs to pick this up. FAST.
and they were so fired up, they came out and dropped an astounding 6 points on the texans and held on for dear life at the end. man, i wish our coach gave pep talks that inspiring....
Hard to belittle Fisher's or the Titan's performance... they won. we didn't, and it was a game we needed to win.
Yes, I would say it DID inspire them. WIN on the ROAD. WIN against a rival. WIN to a team with a winning record. WIN. What else you got? Are you saying Gary shouldn't fire up his team or give them pep talks?
He is saying that leadership doesn't exist, or that it is hugely overstated and has a negligible impact on the outcome of any game.
was it so powerful did it actually uninspire kris brown? that stuff is so meaningless. had brown hit the FG and win in OT - how would the pep talk rate?
Would Fisher's "pep talk" have mattered if Kris Brown makes a field goal? Or if Steve Slaton catches the ball that's right at the numbers in stride with an open field in front of him? Or if Dunta catches that ball that hits his hands? Or if Gary Kubiak didn't insist on running Chris Brown into the line? Or if Andre holds onto that ball on the 3rd down? Pep talks are fine and all, but the only time they are ever discussed is when the team wins. Did Jeff Fisher not give the same quality pep talks when the Titans lost those other 6 games? Has Kubiak only managed to give 5 good pep talks and the other 5 were solid, but just faded at the end of the speech? Leadership and pep talks are things that fans like to ascribe to winning teams, when reality is that the games are decided on the field by players either executing, or failing to execute. (assuming the talent is there) The Texans lost because their players didn't execute, not because Jeff Fisher inspired the Titans.
all things being equal . . . it does not work. Where the Texans Defense GREAT 5 games and horrible 5 games? Was the Texans Offense Great 5 games and horrible 5 games? Was the Texans Special Teams . . . well . .you get the idea No ONE thing loses a game. . . Rocket River
Yeah, tell that to any football player and they will laugh you out of the conversation. Leadership matters, in life, in work, in family, and in sports. To think otherwise is silly. DD
