However, Cowher informed the Bills that he isn't interested in speaking to any teams about potential jobs until after the season, according to the sources, and he could have several options available to him should he opt to return to coaching in 2010. Cowher is taking this position with any potential suitors, the sources said, out of respect to his current employer, CBS, and to those coaches who are still employed by teams seeking to make a change. Gene J. Puskar / Associated Press Bill Cowher had just two losing seasons in 15 years in Pittsburgh. The Bills are making it clear to top candidates that they are willing to spend big bucks to land an elite coach, despite their small-market status. One source close to Cowher believes the compensation could reach the $10 million-per-season range based on early indications. Cowher, who resides in North Carolina, is largely expected to be wooed by the Carolina Panthers should they opt not to bring back John Fox for the final season on his deal. The Houston Texans and Chicago Bears would excite Cowher as well, according to a source, should they opt to make a move. Two sources close to Cowher believe he is more ready now than at any time since retiring after the 2006 season to return to coaching, but he will remain very selective about his next move. The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns spoke to Cowher last offseason about their openings -- the coach strongly considered New York until having a change of thought, according to a league source, but he wasn't interested in the Cleveland job. Browns owner Randy Lerner very likely will reach out to Cowher again as he interviews candidates to be a "football czar" there. However, Cowher isn't interested in management positions at this time (he would have strong views about which personnel people come with him to any team, however), but he would prefer to return in a coaching capacity, according to a league source. Why do people keep floating this nonsense? The run defense played as well as anyone could have hoped. This loss is in no way on them.
They gave up over 200 yards on the ground. Planning for a scrambling QB is part of planning the run defense. Just because Johnson didn't go for 200+ by himself doesn't mean the run defense did a great job.
Actually, at this point upsetting the Colts won't make it all better. Nor will a .500 season cut it. This was a a huge loss.
I know it's not entirely the reason we lost the game, but I have to question the ref's ability on that horse collar call in the 4th. It got the Titans out of a deep hole which led to their eventual winning fg. It was a horrible call that anyone could see was not a penalty. Busing had him from the side and his hand was below the "Johnson" on CJ's jersey. It's 3rd and long from the 6 if that's called correctly...not 1st and 10 from the 21. Also, Dunta Robinson, please go now. Burnt toast on the titans 1st td. Dropped an easy INT in the 4th. He was awful all night long and hasn't really played well at all. Please, let the door hit you on the a** on your way out.
on the previous drive the texans got away with a trip that wasn't called. those cancel each other out. Texans should have closed the deal when they had they chance. I knew if they punted it, the game was over
Was it my imagination, or did Dunta have something else painted on his shoes last night. Ah, yes. Now I remember.... It said: Spoiler JUKE ME, VINCE
We could still make the playoffs. We just have to win every game, except maybe 1 from here on out. Looking at our schedule, unless the team snaps into shape all of a sudden, I don't know if that'll happen.
i think steve young's commentary was pretty spot on. we don't have the killer instinct and leadership necessary to get to the next level. AND, when you can't run the ball you put so much pressure on the offense. who needs to go? kubes? brown? dunta? whoever goes or stays is less important than we learn how to shove the ball down somebody's throat when the game is on the line.
agreed....and on the opposite side of the ball, put fear into the QB that he might be hit in the backfield.
my 1st texans game ever, so it felt like they blew it especially for me! yea! but seriously, i can't pin this on the D... our offense barely sniffed the endzone in the 2nd half. total lack of a running game is KILLING this team. we had a GOLDEN opportunity when we got the ball back with a little more than 5 mins. left to make a sustained drive, kill the clock, and put us in the position to score with little time left and what happens? three-and-freaking-out to give the tennessee VY's the chance to do the same to us... which of course they did. hey, at least it played out exactly how i called it.
Yeah, that's kind of my point. At least we don't have to completely win out like the Titans. Taylor Mays would be a nice pickup....
Kudos to the t***. They played a great game. (I just threw up a little in my mouth.) What on earth happened to Kris "Automatic" Brown? Holy crap. And Dunta "Pay Me" Robinson was crap all night long. Not just on the juke. All night. Well done, PayMe Robinson--you're not gonna get **** compared to what you offered last offseason. Smooth move, ex-lax.
you guys are acting like kubiak benched adrain peterson. am i the only one that remembers slaton is averaging 3.3 yards a carry this year (same as brown last night, btw) and fumbles constantly? if kubiak doesn't trust him... who could blame him? that's not how it happened. on the first TD, they ran brown twice inside the 10 (he gained 7 yards); on the blown-up slaton screen you're referencing, they ran slaton once for no gain and threw an incomplete pass.
