I understand playing the clock, but the titans defense is their bread and butter, and so is bironas, hes clutch. 2nd guessing is always easy, but it was a horrible decision not to allow bironas to try the FG, collins was playing like crap and the defense couldve held the texans under 2 min in my opinion. I wouldnt compare the texans offense to Tech's offense at all, or Titans defense to Longhorns defense.
Eh, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here. The Texans have the No. 3 offense in the NFL, and put up nearly 400 yards today on that vaunted Titans defense. If the Titans would've gone up four, to where the Texans would've had to score a TD, then I would've kicked it. imo, if you think the odds of your defense holding a very good offense out of field goal range are > than the odds of your offense picking up three yards, you absolutely have an abomination of an offense. The Titans aren't an elite offense, but they're not horrible.
Why has it taken teams so long to figure out that if you stuff the box, Collins doesn't have the brains to make you pay?
Collins couldn't through it in the ocean all day, The Titans are supposed to be the class of the league running the ball. If you wanted to mano-a-mano, run the damn ball. But it was the wrong call Jeff. Kearse was owning the right side of the OL, he could have played hell with a two -minute drill. I'll take the win though, because the Texans beat them up on the field more than the score shows. !*#$ TURNOVERS AND PENALTIES, We could have blown them out.
Well, the Titans also have a top five defense. Despite being shredded all game, top five offense vs. top three defense on the final drive. Take your pick. I like that match up better and banking on your near automatic kicker than the gamble Fisher went with. Not to mention, any number of variables could derail a Texans final drive. Fumble, deflection, misque...... Oh well, I guess we'll never know. Either way congrats to the Texans and if you're a Titans fan get ready for back-to-back losses!!!
They play Oakland next week. Y'know, a few weeks ago, I didn't think Slaton had a chance at ROY, going against Chris Johnson and Matt Forte, but I have to think he's actually the favorite now. Finish strong, Steve, and you just might bag some hardware!
Why would you go for it lmao You have a good kicker, you got leave 2 min for Houston to work with, which is alot of time but this is the titans defense. On top of that, you got a kicker that missed one earlier and the playing field is somewhat wet from the rain earlier. I would kick the 3 and hope that the defense controls the fate. Instead of trying to go for a short play, they throw the ball 20 yards down... and even though Kerry Collins struggled all day they still do it. In other words, do we have any chance of making the Wild Card if the Patriots/Dolphins lose all of their games?
I'm really liking this new defensive strategy that smith has invented. He should call it "blitz", maybe it will catch on around the league. =)
those 2, but also matt ryan has been absolutely brilliant this year. considering the record he's led them to (and the fact that he and the offense really have performed...it's not a defense saving their butts or anything).. i think he might be the favorite at this point. Folloed by Johnson/Forte/Slaton.. and i think Johnson/Forte still have the lead on Slaton
If the game was tied, I would agree with you, but since they were behind, as a coach, I would ask myself are the odds better of making the kick or of making the 3 yards. If I thought the odds were better of making the kick, I would do so to take the lead and worry about the Texans now having to score points to win the game. In my opinion you can NEVER score too quickly when you are behind.
Vince can run the ball, but Im having a hard time figuring out what the other "threat" is...playing defense after he throws a pick?
Correct sir. Those two losses against the Colts and Jags early on hurt us now, but who gives a damn. This time, I can say with confidence, get ready for next season. Can't wait.
naw, I'd like to think Texans fans are much classier than t*** fans....at least they are if you compare them on here. things really starting to come together.
