Oh man... this offseason is going to be the most anticipated offseason in our franchise history. I'm really feelin it. We're right there! Just a few more soild draft choices and we can get in. Lets make this 9-7, which so happened to be my original prediction before the regular season.
Can't express how impressed I am with this win. Titans have OWNED us, and to beat them when they're better than they've ever been during our existence? Spectacular. Is this the best win we've ever had in terms of the opponent's win total coming into the game? I'd have to think so. Evan
If only there was no hurricane or whatever, how different our season could be. Maybe we catch Baltimore in week 2. Maybe we get some home cooking or something. That Colts game still burns me.
Excellent Win I wouldn't say that It is *****ty starts that are the issue they seem to always finish strong Rocket River
Yeah, this has to rank right up there with us beating the Colts a couple of years ago when they won the Super Bowl. Except that Colts win might have been a little bit bigger since we got a huge gorilla off of our back winning that game.
He'll get berated because everyone loves to second guess, but it was the right call. I can't think of a high-profile NFL game to make the analogy, but if you watched the end of the UT/Tech game in November, you'll see the problems in football of scoring too early. Sure, from 49, I'd give Bironas about an 80% chance of making it, while picking up a 4th and 3 probably has only a 50-60% chance. So, if you look at those options, then yeah, the FG is the better call. The problem is you also have to consider the clock. If Bironas makes that kick... the Texans get the ball back on the kickoff, with two timeouts and two full minutes, needing only a field goal to win it. Given how tough it is to stop offenses between the 20s in this league -- especially with the prevent defenses used late -- I'd at least give the Texans a 50/50 shot to get into field goal range, if not better. You can't look at it like Bironas would've been kicking a game-winner in the final seconds. The amount of time the Texans would've had left was what made the decision for Fisher, imo.
I have been very critical of this organization and they deserve it, but, give them props, best win in team history. Hopefully, this is a turning point. Andre was always great, but Slaton is a keeper.
Pedestrian QBs should be able to connect on a three-yard crossing pattern, but for some reason, they chose not to run a short-yardage pattern. That's what's strange to me. To expand a little on my prior post, you have to consider the context. Sure, the Texans only had 13 points on the scoreboard. But it would've been 16 if Brown doesn't miss a chip shot. There were also two different occasions where the Texans stalled right around the Tennessee 40 -- pretty much one quick draw up the middle from being in range. For the game, the Texans had 375 yards, and for the season, they have one of the top five offenses in the league. As good as Tennessee's defense is, it's just way too easy in this league to move the ball between the 20s. If the Texans are down, 15-13, with the ball, two timeouts and two minutes on their own 30, I think statistically the odds are > 50/50 that they're going to win (or at least, give Brown a shot). By the way, remember Schaub has already led two 2-minute, game-winning drives (Miami, Green Bay) in his limited starts this season -- I'd say that's a healthy percentage.
congrats on the win texans fans, not sure why fisher didnt kick the fg at the end. The loss of haynesworth is huge. I had 7 guys flicking me off the entire game, ready to kill me if the titans won, so I had to get out of there quick, most of the texans fans were nice though. Again congrats texans
WOW. WE should be a playoff contender if it were not for those stupid losses against the Colts and Jaguars. Can't wait till next year.
The same game you referenced the UT-TT game, I thought the opposite in the Crabtree TD. Crabtree SHOULD have went out of bounds but instead stayed inbounds trying to score. If he got tackled inbounds with 3 seconds left, game over TT loses. But oh well now, thats away from the point... The Titans going for it was 50-50, correct nor incorrect. Win or lose they still come out the game with the best record in the league, with best chance at home field throughout the playoffs
I think Richard Smith and that D deserve huge props for their work the past 4 weeks. Ever since they started dialing up that pressure they have looked not only competent, but pretty damn good. Teams earlier this year would run up and down the field on us punching it in every time, and now we're forcing teams into 3 and outs and holding them to field goals many times. Even though they didn't get any sacks today on Collins, you could see the pressure forcing him into bad throws. The rushing attack for the Titans is one of tops in the league and coming into the game I had a feeling they would gash the Texans. After the first few runs when Chris Johnson got 8+ yards, I got real scared but then the D really bucked down and held their own against the Titans O-Line. Great game by Okoye too, that was awesome to see.
