how does the texans losing to a backup qb who hasn't played in a full season prove that mario was a good pick
Again, didn't say that. But in order to be the "Bowie over MJ" pick that so many Longhorn fans use to justify their intense hatred of all things Texans, it takes more than Mario being a bust. It takes the alternative(s) playing the role of MJ... and in yesterday's case, I don't think Vince's cheerleading and Reggie's 3.2 YPC quite measured up.
the year brad johnson won the superbowl he had a 92 passer rating with 22 tds and 6 picks. that's mediocre?
Man, that sucked. I have to say this though...I should have been devastated yesterday afternoon. Had it been the Oilers in the old days, I would have been. I'm just not there yet with the Texans. I actually want to be. Which is silly (I want to be devastated.) There's no team I care for more...no team I'm rooting for more. But I think you tell if you're a true fan if it hurts a bit when they lose. I'm still not there with the Texans. But I'm trying real hard, Ringo.
I said mediocre to good... you left out the second part. Peyton Manning had a 121 passer rating in 2004 and lost in the second round of the playoffs. Was Johnson's Super Bowl season superior?
I hurt enough for us both. The last time I felt that high only to have the rug swept out from under me, Pujols had just launched a Brad Lidge fastball.
so a good qb can win a superbowl. what's your point again, you're arguing in circles. a good qb can win a superbowl. maybe you should start from the beginning.
vy fans say he wins cat: trent dilfer and brad johnson won (trying to make the point that mediocre qbs can win) pgabriel: shows cat that brad johnson was pretty damn good in his championship year the cat: good qbs can win
For me, even that doesn't compare. I had confidence the Astros could come back and win one of the next two games -- they'd been resilient all season. I don't even know where to begin. This franchise is so depressing. Every time they look like they're turning a corner, something absurdly unlucky happens and it's back to reality. Second game of the season... this team looked great. Then, when the game is well in hand, Johnson takes a hit and his knee didn't even bend all that much. We thought maybe a one week injury... here it is, nearly six weeks later, and we still have no clue when or if he's going to return. Third game of the season... the OL is playing very well, with McKinney as one of the primary anchors. He goes down with a knee injury, but actually comes back in the game... you think everything is OK... and then somehow there's a torn ACL. Yesterday... one of the most incredible comebacks in sports history, really... and then every single part of the defense breaks down in a last-second collapse. Hell, go back to last season. There was so much riding on the Titans/Texans game in Houston, and each team had a lot of success moving the ball in the fourth quarter. It was a pretty safe assumption that whoever won the coin toss would go down the field, score, and have bragging rights for all of eternity. Guess which way the coin went? I know I'm whining, but this franchise makes me depressed like none other. Logic tells me that at some point it's going to even out... but when?
Point is, the best quarterbacks don't always in. There are many quarterbacks who have had better seasons than Johnson in 2002 and Dilfer in 2000, but those two won Super Bowls. The point is, arguing for an individual player based on team results is generally silly.
Only reason it didn't hurt me a lot is because I KNEW it would happen. As soon as we scored, I saw there was almost a minute left and I just KNEW it was way too much time. Did anyone REALLY think we were going to make them go 3 and out and the game would be over?
Brad Johnson in 2002 < Peyton Manning in 2004 Brad Johnson's team result > Peyton Manning's team result Unless you think Johnson > Manning, I'm showing the limited scope that quoting a QB's record provides.
no your point was that titans win despite vy and you tried to use a qb who had a good season to back it up now know that qb had a pretty damn good season. just admit your mistake and move on
so now we have to compare every qb to peyton manning. when did peyton manning join the argument. just admit you were wrong you're just arguing in circles to save face
I'll say it again. Was Brad Johnson in 2002 superior to Peyton Manning in 2004? I know good and well what kind of season Johnson had. You're either missing or ignoring the point.
And to add to what you and mrdave are saying: What do you think the reaction in Reliant yesterday would have been if that had been Mario Williams laying down the smack on Kerry Collins? I tell, there'd been YouTube video posted on the board in celebration. Hell, I'd settle for ANY Texans defensive lineman getting near the opponent's QB at this point in time.
Wrong about what? I'm confused here. When did I ever say that Johnson was mediocre or that he didn't play well in 2002? Can you show me? And it doesn't have to be Manning. We can go back to the player I first mentioned -- Carson Palmer. Do you think Johnson will go in the history books as a better QB than Palmer? I'm arguing the same point I've made since the beginning and you choose to ignore with this bizarre sideshow.
what does carson palmer have to do with it. brad johnson had a good year in 2002 and they won the superbowl. why did you mention trent dilfer? what is the point. so now you just felt to make a point about carson palmer in a titans/texans thread. that proves you didn't make a mistake?
