I don't think shaub is much better that sage. Sage made some mistakes, but he put his team in a position to win and thats all that matters.
But the team still lost... and Sage's mistakes were costly. This isn't even close to being a controversy... unless you belive that somehow Sage magically got the O-line to start protecting better (which he didn't... the Titans players/coaching/schemes eased up a little too much).
I also think the "I'm a fan no matter what" can also come with simply how long you've been a fan of the team. You have an investment in the team. Also, it helps that it's football. With Houston, I think a fan of the Rockets who gets turned off by the team is far more likely to simply bail on the NBA all together, rather than still follow it and find a rooting interest.
And I think they've got some of that already... with each passing year, and each "defensible" questionable decision that the franchise makes, they develop the fans who really do care about why they continue to fail to progress. But the only sure-fire guarantee of getting fans is winning... and its a helluva lot more fun to root for a winning team in a city you actually live in, rather than some po-dunk town that probably 85% of VYOF/old Oilers fans have never even been to.
You missed the point entirely. A popular player from a local college team gets drafted, and people dress up in their college gear to go to a pro game. Acie Law didn't have to win a national championship to garner rabid fan support. He took the team farther than it had ever been. A&M basketball was a joke when he got there, and a sweet 16 team when he left. There are a lot of people that regard him as a savior of the program. I promise you, there were a lot of A&M faithful in this city upset that the Rockets didn't get a shot at Acie.
Cat, 8 field goals is not that great of an offensive performance, not to mention most of the points were because of Texan's turnovers. I thought the game was awesome....now all the Texan's need is Andre back....HURRY UP ANDRE !! DD
Bud just wanted a stadium and was willing to put in some of his own money. Houston called his bluff and lost. Then Houston built a stadium to get a team on worse terms.
Well, there was the whole other part about how I've never had a connection to the Texans. I was no longer in Houston when that happened, I didn't like Tennessee before, and really aren't a major fan of any team. Titans drafted VY, and there-fore I'm rooting for the Titans.
Well I live in San Diego and have Chargers season tickets but I can't freaking go next week because I'll be in Houston for a wedding. @*(#! There is a decent chance the game next week gets cancelled or moved to an alternate location anyway. There are massive fires going on out here and I can actually see them off in the far distance and you can start to smell it a bit. Last time this happened in 2003, it was raining ashes and the Chargers Monday Night game was moved to Arizona, and these fires are looking at least as bad as those fires with Santa Ana winds kicking in. Maybe it would help the Texans to play on a neutral field, but I think the Chargers will be too much no matter where it is, and I'm never going to hear the end of it.
The same Sage who threw three interceptions into coverage? Don't get me wrong, I love Sage's fearlessness and competitive nature, but it isn't like we haven't seen anything like that from Matt before (cue final drive of Dolphins game, or 1st half of Panthers game). It's nice to have someone like Sage as a backup, but this isn't even close to being a controversy like Nick said. I'll take Schaub as my starter any day. Now if only Kubes would give the rookie linemen a chance and put an end to this continuous embarassment from the offensive line before one of our quarterbacks gets killed.
i heard a couple people on national radio talking about a brewing controversy in houston because schaub is getting pressure to show something. i was like WTF? i think schaub has been everything i hoped he'd be, particularly when he had decent protection and his best wide receiver. He hasn't been perfect but you can certainly do some winning with him at the lead. rosenfelds is probably better then a number of starting quarterbacks right now, but there's no question this is schaub's team.
Wow, you guys kill me. Are some of you actually telling other people who they can/should root for...as if they need to appease you with why they root for whatever team they follow. Do you realize how stupid that sounds? It's a game people. Folks can like and follow whatever player/team for whatever reason they like. If you don't like hearing about their team being successful (especially when they play yours) then don't dog them...dog the decision makers on your team. Then maybe you won't hear their mouths when your team starts winning..... That was a great 4th quarter today. I was hoping the Texans could pull it off but I just had a feeling that they would let TN score (was listening to it on the radio). At least they made it exciting though. I would say no one expected the team to be 3-4 at this point...so the season isn't really that bad considering all of the injuries.
I feel like vomiting. How anyone doesn't understand this is either too young or too stupid. I've loved a woman before. When she left, she was dead to me. Now, if for some reason, my new love met my old one, I'd want her to scratch the other's eyes out. For Pete's sake, my son's name in Derrick. I was more of an Oiler fan than any of you KY fans pretend to be.
Does anyone know on our last drive, who was on the OL? That was some great protection for Rosenfels. Whoever they were, they should be starting. The idiots who were there in the 1st 3 quarters need to be benched. If it was the same OL as it was in the 1st 3 quarters, where the hell were you?
Why would the titans back off the pressure when they know tenn is going to pass. seems like the play calling got better when kubiak stopped being so stubborn and trying to run. jeff fisher is a great coach, but playing for field goals almost bit him in the arse again.
yeah, he's only 2-0 vs the texans. hey at least you can your hat on that. edit, kerry collins completed 60% of his passes and had 6.7 per attempt. vince is at 64% with 6.2 per attempt. your point even further meaningless.
That would have been me. I was laughed at every turn for actually going to Rockets' games at Hofheinz Pavilion... True enough but it would have been much easier to do had the fans in Houston been able to force the NFL to make Butt-face Adams relinquish the Oilers name like what happened in Cleveland although that was a special situation. Again, what I think is happening here is that so many people are simply beyond PO'ed because of the mess the C&C idiot factory created. The Oilers not only left a legacy of losing and futility but one that was downright comical at times. That franchise was a league joke for so many years I lost count. Then here come the Texans and what did they do? Why they picked right up where the Oilers left off. More losing and futility. So it's easy for me to see why so many folks don't have any emotional ties to this team because they are simply fed up with rooting for a loser. Hating the Cowboys for their success can only carry you so far. Yelling at all of the VY fans or Titans fans won't change squat. Given the history of pro football in Houston, the Texans have to earn some credibility and the way they played Sunday won't cut it. For 3 quarters, if you placed Columbia Blue jerseys on them, you'd have had the Oilers. They were simply that bad. After a week of listening to how this team was soooo angry at what happened last year and to all of the smack talk on the airwaves and in print, for them to come and get beaten not by Vince Young but by Kerry Collins was beyond belief. In retrospect, I suppose I should have not been surprised because this sort of thing was a common occurance under the Bud Adams regime (anyone recall the "Hold The Rope episode on MNF?"). So I can understand why so many people are simply ticked off at the Texans. I can understand why the UT fans were beyond ticked when the Texans passed on Vince Young for David Carr and when they picked Mario (Invisible) Williams because they equated VY to Earl Campbell. To many folks, that was the last straw. The VY issue is a means for these people to express their extreme displeasure to McNair, Kubiak & Smith over what has become yet another Houston pro football disappointment. And as the losses continue to mount, it will only get uglier and uglier until the Texans somehow stumble upon a way to right this sunken ship of a franchise and start putting a winning team on the field. But that's something that will take YEARS. And Kubiak doesn't have years to make this right. [/QUOTE]
