The "right" to talk smack? Did you have a problem with Texans fans talking smack to Titans fans before the game? Or Rockets fans to Mavs fans? Or Texans fans to Cowboys fans? Why not whine about all of that? Or do you only have a problem with it when it's being done TO your team's fans instead of BY your team's fans? If person A talks smack before a game to person B - regardless of circumstances - and person B's team wins, expect person B to rub it in. It amazes me that people complain so much when it happens, given that it's so obvious that it will. Is there a contest for whiniest fan on this forum?
I think you know what I was referring to. Not selecting Vince Young... the curse... etc. If you're a true Titans fan, you have every right to gloat. If you're a Vince Young fan -- and then, the team goes out and has by far its best offensive game with Vince on the bench -- I'd expect you to show humility. I wouldn't have talked smack on behalf of Mario Williams had the Texans won, because he played a fairly poor game. For the most part, Longhorn fans aren't Titans fans. They're Vince Young fans. And for today, Vince Young did absolutely nothing. If anything, the Titans showed they might be better without him.
Houstonians that root for the Titans make me sick. Do they have that in Cleveland? Do San Diego people root for the Rockets? Do UT fans root for every team with a couple of alums on it? It's ridiculous.
but when ultimatepaki and randomdude stalks yao ming, the rockets drop 15 spots in the power rankings.
Yes, pretty much. Who should they root for? They've got a tangible connection to these players that they don't really have to any NFL team. And Vince Young is the most prominent Longhorn football player in my lifetime, what with the whole National Championship and being one of the greatest college football players in history. So it's natural that UT fans would also cheer for Vince Young in the pros and for the team he's on. I'm not sure why this is so mystifying. Fans in a rooting for team that has their favorite player on it shocker, I suppose.
Amen to that. This really comes down to the classic player fan vs. team fan. I'm a fan of teams, I just don't understand player fans. (Note difference between player appreciation and fandom. VY Titans fans = YOFs, hurts to see it that way eh?)
I was talking about UT fans in Houston. Do UT alums in Dallas line up to root for THE TITANS even when VY is on the bench? Answer: no.
That is a terrible comparison. The Cowboys have serious tradition with guys like Aikman, Staubach, and Tom Landry, and people have followed them since they were born. The Texans were founded in 2002 and have done nothing at all to get fans excited about the team. If they wanted to win over fan, maybe they shouldn't have passed on both a local hero and an electrifying RB for a mediocre DE was
Actually, plenty of UT fans in Dallas do root for Vince and the Titans. And plenty in Austin and San Antonio and any city in the nation with Texas fans.
Definitely. There's a huge alumni presence in Dallas and San Antonio that follows Vince avidly. People in Houston have been following Vince since his Madison HS days, so of course they're even more die-hard.
if you're a titans fan, i don't care. just don't say you've always been a fan of them when it's obvious you've never had a rooting interest in the Titans until VY. one thing i'll credit mrdave with is, he really has been a follower of the Titans. although his trolling has been annoying in the past, i can see he's making a bit of an effort to be more civilized. what i don't understand is how can people who've grown up and lived in Houston root for the Texans to lose, or should i say revel in the fact they lose?
