Well the 2006 season hadn't been played yet? So how could you consider that "this year" at that point? In all my arguements on this BBS over the summer, typing til my fingers literally hurt, wanting to go over to dadakotas house and unplug his damned computer, I refered to the 2004 season as "last year". It was the season that had been played before the current one, which at the time, was 2005 (2-14). Im not interested in arguing symantics really.. the point is that at the time of the decision there were only 4 years of evidence on paper. And year 3 looked very promising.
High drama in this thread! I root for the Texans since they have "Houston" in front of their names, but I don't have a connection with them because I moved to New Zealand a few months before the first season started. I will never root for the Titans, though. Vince Young is fine, but rooting for them is like letting your wife who gangbanged the local Chamber of Commerce back in your good graces. As for the Texans, I think they were in good shape through 2004, but all of the bad coaching, questionable picks and trades under the old regime caught up with them last year. Despite all of the mess today, things are better than they seen. They had a great draft this year and Richard Williams and Kubiak seem like they know what they are doing. Williams and Ryans are going to anchor that defense for a long time. I think they are on the right track. I just don't think it will be with David Carr. Whatever intangibles Young has, Carr lacks. Young just flat out wins, stats be damned. I think he would have willed the Texans to win just like he has with his current team.
i like the, "i'm not trying to offend him..." but i won't take him at his word, so he must be a liar, angle. that's awesome. and by awesome, i mean totally sweet.
Man you Texan fans are HARSH on David Carr, The BOOS after Carr threw that illegal forward pass sounded like someone cut in line waiting for PS3s.
That's what I'm saying, though. What exactly was promising about those years? With a QB the big stat is W-L record. Either you win or you don't. How many winning seasons does David Carr have? What's his career high for wins? You can argue completion % until you're blue in the face but the fact is we lost those games. Vince Young is a winner. If winning means we have a QB who doesn't have a high rating or completion %, that's fine with me. The Texans aren't playing Fantasy Football. They're playing real football where the only thing anyone remembers is W-L. Should we ask Peyton Manning how that TD record helped him win a Super Bowl? Oh yeah, it didn't. Stats do not win championships. Winning games wins championships. If Vince Young loses every game for the rest of the year, he STILL will have won 2 more games than Carr did in his rookie year and will have one less win this year than Carr's career high for wins (7). Don't forget he did this in less starts. There is nothing pre-2006 Draft that should have made anyone want to keep David Carr.
I didn't think it was that bad until I read on the Chron that the pregame introducions were purposely skipped so that they could avoid the embarassment of Carr getting boo'd and Vince getting a standing ovation. Now that is bad.
stop calling me a liar. here's your example: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=119899&page=4&pp=20
If you're going to count wins as the only meaningful stat, then basically you would have run any QB on earth out of Houston after the first 4 years. No one was going to get that dung heap into the playoffs. No one. Carr had a great 3rd year, W-L be damned. But his goose is cooked now, he's done, over with. Peyton Manning setting insane passing records didn't win him a superbowl, but guess what, it sure as hell didn't lose him any games either. Marino kicked some serious ass too, did his lighting up the stat charts lose him games? Nope. Know what lost them games? Bad special teams. Crappy 3rd down defense. Terrible defensive schemes. To say that a player, despite his amazing performances, isn't a "winner" because his team lost makes almost zero sense. Football is a team game, one man doesn't win or lose the game.
And by totally sweet, you mean like the play of Vincent Young? Choosing Mario Williams over Vince doesn't bother me that much. I think Williams has played well and will get better. The problem is, we chose Williams because the staff thought Carr was a real QB. We weren't even really considering Vince.
i don't really keep a tally of when i posted. but it took me about all of 2 minutes to find that one. why the hell do you care, again???
i've said this for a while. i don't consider there to be a Mario/VY decision at all. the decision came to extend Carr. that was made before they chose Mario. that decision precluded the chance to take VY or any other QB for that matter.
Max has posts in the Texans/Raiders thread. You're just flat out wrong. Not really sure where you're going with this, but you're just coming across badly.
Badly? I said I never saw him in these threads during games with the other regulars and he said I was just wrong. He just confirmed that he hadn't posted during a game in five weeks and now he's trying to talk down to me. I'm calling him a liar and why the hell do I care? What? Okay.
seriously...why do you care about this so much? i've posted during games. that's what i've said. that's all i said. why is it your goal to prove otherwise? who cares? would you like a schedule of the things i do on typical sundays? would that help any?
