They say Vince was cracking jokes in the huddle at the end. They said he seemed completely underwhelmed by his circumstances. It was time to win the game, and Vince probably knew he would. He brought the Titans from eight points down to win. He put the finishing touch on things with a 39-yard TD run in overtime. Before that, he'd led an 88-yard drive. Ho hum. Not his first rodeo. He has started 10 NFL games and won six of his last eight. He has led his team back from deficits of 21, 14 and 8 points. http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/ Cracking jokes. "Underwhelmed" in a pressure situation. Knew he would win. There are only a few QB's in THE HISTORY OF THE GAME that these words could apply to...
I'd say most people rooted for the Oilers because they were Houston's team. They rooted for them through a lot of crap, the Oilers are gone now and Houston football is defined by the Texans. There are a lot more hardcore Houston football fans than you give credit for. The Texans could pack up their bags and leave to be replaced by the Houston Huggiebears and your hardcore Houston football fans would cheer for them without missing a single beat.
This is probably the best post I've seen related to the entire issue. You're right on all levels. Its really been a while since somebody has brought that spirit into the fans in this area. Simply can't fault anyone for that!
i'm suggesting i was never on the bandwagon. i'm suggesting that my feelings for the Texans are nowhere near what they are for the Astros and Rockets because they don't feel like MY team. because they were thrust on me when i was 27...as opposed to being the team that i grew up with.
Who do you want to blame it on? Casserly? Kubiak? Here's how I see it, Carr's extension came less than a week after Kubiak was hired. Do you actually think Kubiak had enough time to sit and fully evaluate Carr? McNair wanted to keep Carr, period. And I honestly think that Kubiak was hired under the terms that he'd have to work with Carr for at least 1 season.
you're just wrong. sorry. not sure what else to say. i have absolutely been in these forums during games.
Why calm down? Watch the video macalu...that pump fake went from a potential loss of yardage to a TD run.
Kubes did not do David any favors He took the ball out of Davids hand David OFFICIAL was demoted from QB to Game Manager Rocket River
maybe we can all boycott Texans game because they didnt pick VY and the Texans will move to LA and we can get a team that will pick the players we all know they're supposed to pick.
I consider the Texans to be my favorite team and I'll never root for another team to beat them (as long as they are in Houston). It's one thing to root for another player do do well in his career, but I'm not going to root for him to beat the team that I call my favorite team. Many people aren't huge fans of the Texans yet and that is fine. They can root for any team, I don't care. For me though, I root for NFL teams based on the city in front of the name so I'm not going to be rooting against the Texans. Vince and the Titans got it done today. They came in and got the win.
No way Casserly was making the decision. It was pretty obvious that Casserly was on the way out and he was just sticking around until after the draft was over. Who knows how it all played out. Im sure McNair really wanted Carr for some bizarre reason. Kubiak might have wanted him too. What we do know is Bud Adams wanted VY regardless of Jeff Fisher or Norm Chow. To me that was Bob McNair's biggest failure. Having watched David Carr in college, I never thought he was a franchise type QB. The Texans got screwed because Vick went early just to avoid playing for the Texans. Carr was a product of a relatively weak draft. The biggest problem was that McNair refused to admit his golden boy was just gold plated. He couldve demanded they draft Vince rather than wasting more money on carr. VY wanted to play for the Texans so badly and Houstonians wanted Vince to play here. McNair 1. ignored Carr's lack of "character" or worthiness 2. ignored Vince's talents 3. ignored the fans desire to have the hometown hero bring us out of our misery. McNair is getting what he deserved and no hometown loyalty will absolve him of these mistakes.
really, why all the mess about cheering for the Texans as a "hometown" team? sure, they play with Houston as a home base, but that doesn't make them any more Houstonian than our own city's son, VY. He was born in Houston, played at a Houston high school, went to a Texas school (where thousands of Houston kids go), yet gets completely dissed after publicly stating he'd like to play for his home team. How much more hometown can you get? Everyone who's out there spewing garbage hate on VY because he's a Titan - look, this kid is more Houston than any player on the Texan team besides Steve McKinney. It's almost impossible to root against him. He's true Houstonian and true Texan. Not like these imported guys who see our city as just another place to make a multi-million dollar salary.
dude, it absolutely is an identity crisis. and a civil war in my house. my 6 year old was furious at me today. he LOVES the texans. they're his team. they're all he's known here. he was born into them and he went with me to games starting when he was 2. they will always be his team. my team left a long time ago. the team my dad took me to see growing up. i hoped the texans could replace them. i think i was wrong. i don't hate the texans. i'm just more ambivalent about them than i'd hoped i'd be.
b/c it was just a pump fake. every QB does it. to say, "that was teh greatest fake i've ever seen"? who are you, Bill Walton? i know the guy is great, but let's show a little restraint about a pump fake.
When the interviewer asked Karl Malone how he felt about being drafted by the Utah Jazz, he replied, "I love Utah", "uhh... where's Utah". Vince Young - Houston born and Texas raised.
