And the point I've been making all along is that while the Texans haven't been here long enough to earn rabid loyalty, the Titans have done more to earn our enmity than our loyalty, mostly due to leaving town.
Mario's like the 3rd youngest player in the NFL. He's gonna get better when the new coaching staff take over in 2 years.
I think it was made into that because it was Carr's opportunity to show he could win a big game, at home at that. He did his usual dink and dunk routine, high completion percentage with mediocre yardage, and again didn't distinguish himself as someone that can win a game. We got to see Vince and Carr on the same stage and how Vince distinguished himself as a rookie in a big game on the road and Carr was just blah blah as a 5 year vet. It was a big game. I don't know if the team recovers from this one. I hope we don't win any more games this year just so we get a higher pick. I'd be surprised if we won another game anyway.
Truth: David Carr IS a bust. Truth: Young being successful for the Texans would mean more than Williams doing so due to his Houston/Texas ties. Truth: The option to pick Young was foreclosed when the Texans decided to stick with the aforementioned bust Truth: it's hard to like the Texans.
Rockets Only Fan here... Guess what, I am compelled to feel sorry for all you Texans fans. That was a horrible horrible outcome for the city of Houston. Hey, forget about Vince Young. We've got Yao Ming... no?
Allow me to take a crack at this... Here is what you don't get: A few years ago Houston did not have a football team. We had our hearts ripped out by the biggest butthole in the history of Houston, Bud freakin Adams. We knew the pain of not having an NFL franchise, and worse yet, the pain of losing that team. We know that it could happen again. We're happy to just have a team to root for. Even if they suck. We cheer for them and hope they win, always, because they represent our city to the world (sadly sports has become this important). We realize that we can't just ride the high times and then disappear when things get tough. We disappeared when things got tough with the Oilers, and the Oilers packed up their sh*t and left. It hurt real bad, it still hurts. We don't want that to happen again. For better or worse, we are Houstonians, we are Texans, and even if my team doesn't draft my favorite player (Kolb, Vince, McNeal, Rosie O'Donnel) I'll still want them to win every Sunday. Cheer for whoever you want in addition to the Texans, but please, don't turn your back on them when the going gets tough.
Bob McNair is a piece of $hit owner. The guy had the chance to start over but he couldn't give up on his pretty boy QB. I don't feel sorry one bit for the guy, yes he spent an unbelievable amount of money, but man did Houston give him the honeymoon of a lifetime. McNair didn't want to show Carr the door and it's going to cost him and the city for years to come.
My gosh... again, I'm not a Texans fan. But after seeing these pictures, I might as well become one based on pity... Nah, I'll stick with my Rockets.
IC2000, you impressed me with your statement a page ago. I feel for you. I havn't lived in Houston since 97 and I don't like that VY isn't still playing in Texas. This is a bizzare and depressing thing--I don't know anything like it in sports (1/3 fans rooting for the local boy QB of the team that left you). I don't live there now, I don't have my TV/media/live games I could go to, and it is still a little sad to me. None of this is Carr's fault, Mario W fault, or VY fault. Just a shame on all number of levels.
I was so surprised when the texans brought the 9 man rush on the final play.. That was insane, real balls to the wall.. They rolled the dice and lost. Vince almost went down at the line of scrimmage. Truly a game of inches!
Any Texan fan is a bandwagon fan. The franchise itself has been around for such a short period of time, there are no "die hard" Texan fans. There were diehard Oilers fans. There are diehard Astros fans There are diehard Rockets fans. And spare me the lecture of supporting the city Teams. Many people have been supporting Houston teams for 30 years, 25 more than many "Texan" fans who moved to city a few years ago when they got transferred. I couldn't be happier Vince gave it to McNair and Kubiak in the arse.
Yeah, I was thinking about that earlier. What if VY had been in the draft class of 2002? or 2006? Its really just a matter of circumstance. It was hard to blame the Texans for taking Williams or Bush, as they needed the most help in those places coming into this year. With Vince it was just the wrong place at the wrong time, the Titans needed a QB and had a really high pick. He was there. Case closed. Its sad for Houston sports really because it has torn the city in all directions and thats really the last thing this fan base needed after what happened in the 90s. Houston football, tragedy defined.
Watching that video again reminds me of why Vince Young is special. He makes you care. The NFL has become a business. It's less about city pride and more about making money. Look at Vince after the TD. He has his team jumping around like a college team. They're having fun. They care about winning. Period. It's why I love college football more than I'll ever like the NFL. DonnyMost has UH. IC2000 has A&M. I have UT. RocketFan has Vandy. College football is about pride and spirit. The NFL is not. Vince Young is bringing a little of that college football spirit to the NFL. That's why he's the guy I choose to follow. He gives a damn.
Nice quote: Tennessee has waited 170 years for Texas to pay them back for sending Sam Houston and Davy Crockett. Now, that Houston delivered Vince Young to Tennessee, the debt is officially repaid.
