That's the one that bothers me so much

If you really want to keep Jake in CF for his glove, put Chas in LF and Altuve at 2B

    Chas .280/.379 on base/699 OPS
    Dubie .209/.261/.517

Don't tell us Chas has to earn his playing time and then give Doob twice the at bats

Chas easily makes that catch that Meyers dropped the other day

It's not something that is going to last the entire season. Also don't care about him not hitting against LHP...we need another lefty bat that can hit RHP in the worst way.

Like I said, it's not a good reason but it's the reality based on what Espada is going to do. As soon as Chas struck out 3 times (and looked bad doing it) we knew Espada would put him right back on the bench and sure enough that's what happened. I'd love to stop seeing Dubon consistently in the lineup but we know he can't help himself there either.

For whatever reason, Dusty and Espada have some crazy obsession with Dubon and the opposite is true with Chas.

No, it's not. But he also wouldn't be playing everyday against RHP for us right now because I seriously doubt we would risk playing Yordan in the field every day. That was more my point. The injuries aren't something new for him either, his last fully healthy season was 2021. Shame, cause the dude can hit

I'd bet they both get that one more times then not, looked like Myers just misread the room he had before he got to the wall no?

I know everyone thinks I'm crazy but I believe Dusty gives the lineup to Espada on the cell phone every day.

When it comes to hitting, or anything on the offensive side of the game, I absolutely think Chas is the better player and choose him over Meyers.

But there is absolutely nothing that involves starting in the grass where Chas is better than Meyers. And there is not any play that Meyers can't make, but Chas can.

FTR: if I had to choose between them in a vaccuum, I am choosing Chas everyday, because of his versatility. But if my corner OF are set with everyday starters, then it's Jake.

Now of course, any individual play could be made by a random guy and not another. Thats the randomness of real life, but saying Chas would make a play Jake can't is either ignorant or disingenuous or both.

So Chas may cost you how many more runs than Jake over a full season? 3? 5?
If Chas knocks in 15 more runs and scores 15 more runs then it’s well worth it right?

5 runs for 100 points higher on the OPS?

I don’t think he needs to talk to Dusty to know who he’d play lol he soaked it all in as his bench coach watching him

Sure - if you make up hypothetical numbers that fit the narrative you want to create, your narrative will work.

The problem is that it's all theory. Meyers was the better hitter and better defender last year. Until 3 days ago, he was the better hitter and defender this year. Chas is suffering from small sample size issues - one more 0-3 start and he would be a worse hitter than Jake again.

The complaint seems to be the Astros won't start the guy you want to believe is a better hitter despite the lack of any of sort of evidence in the last year and a half. Its amusing that Chas the same kind of mystical hold on fans that people insisted Maldy had on Dusty.

Not really. The last time Chas played a full season, 2023, how much better were his numbers than jakes best numbers?

Chas hasn’t had consistent playing time since April of last year, before his injury.

Meyers had consistent playing time last year after Chas went down and what was Jake’s OPS from june 1 on?

262 games v 162 games? Probably somewhere between 10 and 15 runs. Jake’s probably about 15 outs above average in cf. Chas about 0-5. Outs above average works out to about .75 or .8 runs per. 10 runs is a win, theoretically. Chas would have to be worth more than 1 win with the bat to surpass the glove. It’s probably pretty close. I’d go with Chas for a month I think and see what that looks like.

Bregman and Tucker in a race to see who gets to 135 RBIs first.

I don’t think Chas any kind of mystical hold on anyone. I doubt a single person here would complain if he were backing up a player that is just a little above average. It’s watching him sit so a guy with a sub .600 OPS can play in addition to watching him sit so Dubon can get starts that drives many of us nuts

If you don’t think Chas has more offensive upside than Meyers and Dubon, no need to waste time discussing it

And yes, one more 0-3 would put Chas around the same OPS as Jake as your narrative says, but one 3-4 and he leads the team in OPS.
