Another positive is this game helps Yordan's MVP candidacy.... HR with 4 RBIs, OPS damn near 1100

It sucks to lose games (small picture), but Astros will get healthier and most likely reach the LCS, minimum (big picture)

We're still in the Golden Age of Astros/MLB history and are the favorites to raise the trophy when it's all said and done

If the Astros have money, they must WASTE IT or they are GREEDY. Let's not even imagine a situation where they spend it at the trade deadline.(Ohtani Rental?)

Just a little spreadsheet looking for some correlation between the record after 5 games and after the first month and then the season. I'm not really seeing much of anything.

    Year_ 5___MO___YR__
    _____W L__W L___W L
    2023 2 3 ___ ___ ___ ____
    2022 4 1 11 10 106 _56
    2021 4 1 14 12 _95 _67
    2020 3 2 19 14 _29 _31
    2019 2 3 18 12 107 _55
    2018 4 1 20 10 103 _59
    2017 3 2 16 _9 101 _61
    2016 2 3 _7 17 _84 _78
    2015 2 3 15 _7 _86 _76
    2014 2 3 _9 19 _70 _92
    2013 1 4 _8 19 _51 111
    2012 3 2 _9 14 _55 107
    2011 0 5 10 17 _56 106

Starting pitching looked average first go around. Hopefully we see some dominant starting pitching arms this time.

Bregman looks like he’s breaking out
Peña needs to step it up at lead off.

Astros starters haven't won a game in 5 games and the bullpen has not been lights out, 2-3 is not bad. The problem is Tigers (1-3) and White Sox (2-3), are giving more runs than scoring. We maybe playing bad teams and losing to bad teams. Again, still early......

They will not trade him, because they are trying to re-sign him.

If talks aren't going anywhere near the deadline, wouldn't it be better to get a big return than potentially lose him for nothing? This would be worse than the Nationals owner denying the Harper trade because they were still trying to sign him. Regardless, I don't see Astros acquiring him so him not getting traded is best case scenario. Doesn't go to a team who Houston may have to face in the playoffs and Angels don't strengthen their prospects pool.

If Ohtani is interested in resigning with the Angels, then it is in his best interest to want to be traded this year (if the Angels are not contenders). The Angels will get the biggest haul ever for a rental and that'll make the Angels stronger in the years to come. Ohtani would have a chance at a ring this year and can come back to a stronger Angels team in the coming years.

There's still bust potential with them, but the White Sox should be better this year mainly because Tony La Russa isn't managing them anymore. Also helps that the rest of the AL Central still kind of stinks.

Personally I expected a slow start to the season, there is a heavy reliance on super young players and you have to consider the Dusty Baker factor.

Getting Bregman going was the most important part of last night's game. I think once Altuve, Brantley, and McCullers are back healthy the Astros will be in full swing just rolling teams.

Blanco is a stud. Made it look easy compared to Abreu and Neris.

Astros were 6-8 after 14 games last year with everyone but Lance healthy.

Let's try to relax and not get too high nor too low, as they say.

They will not trade him, because they are trying to re-sign him.
And you also open up the possibility he likes where he is traded to and that team becomes the favorite to sign him. Or you give the view the grass is greener in other teams. No team is going to risk a fantasy of a asset haul in a trade for giving a player a view from the outside.
