Never said he was. Did you know, when they released Martinez, that he would become an All-Star? Because he looked like an AAAA player at the time...and it's not like he didn't get a chance (252 games as an Astro).

Using hindsight from moves years ago as a justification for questioning why he didn't bring up a prospect or 2 is kind of silly...don't you think?

All-Star? Seems a high bar for wanting to keep a player. My recollection may be a little rusty, but that team had a bad case of the suck, and anyone with upside should have been kept. If he looked like a AAAA player, he should have been kept in AAA. I don't even think he was on 40-man when Astros let him finally go.

I believe today marks the anniversary in 1989 when Nolan Ryan struck out his 5000th batter...with the Rangers.

Diaz is on the DL, as is Correa. Straw or Mayfield as the SS option. Tucker up for Diaz. Personally, I would have DFA Reddick....but I have never liked Reddick. You can also have 1 less pitcher.

To be fair, I've read excerpts where it really sounded like Luhnow had deferred to Bo Porter on that decision (since Luhnow had only just arrived), and Porter apparently had an axe to grind with Martinez. Apparently Martinez had begged the front office for one last chance (claiming he had fixed some things in his swing), but Porter refused. Obviously the organization doesn't look great with how that was handled, but things like that happen every year.

Also, on a side note, Bo Porter was a ****ing dumbass.

This is true. Porter wouldn't give him ABs in Spring Training (I think he got something like 20, and then sat on the bench, not even in SS or minor league games, for like 2 weeks), Luhnow was a newbie GM and he's admitted that mistake (like when he eventually fired Porter).

Why? Because I think Reddick is crap? He is. He disappears in the playoffs. If he is not hitting, much better options. Please give be because u don’t have a logical comeback. Simplistic solution is to carry one less pitcher for a week or so. Reasoning is to have Tucker playoff eligible (up before 8/31).

The reason they don’t do it is not to burn 1 of Tucker’s options.

He doesn't have to be up by 8/31, just on the 40 man roster. He's eligible for the postseason.

They're not going to DFA him now and eat the $13M of his next year's contract.

Do you require more "logical comebacks"? Please do keep asking.

Luhnow was GM for 2 years at that point? Porter lasting longer than a year is on Luhnow. I can see not wanting to fire a guy midseason when team sucks. Anything Porter broke after Luhnow had been there a year has to fall on Luhnow.

I should say, I don't care much either way on this issue. It was a mistake. With information team had, probably didn't look like a big deal releasing him at the time. It still should count as a mistake. I expect a lot is being posted that I'm not seeing.

Dude, you're right about Porter re to Luhnow. How easy is it to totally forget about Brad Mills?

JD raked in the VWL after he retooled his swing, and then got no shot in ST with the Stros. That was Luhnow's 3rd offseason as GM for the Stros. Then every single team in MLB passed on claiming him, then Detroit took a shot on a minor league contract. Rest is history.

Im sure Reddick will turn it around

    Would trade in the off-season.

Proper slider outside for the Altuve K: it was literally 3 feet off the plate
