Yao Ming has left Shanghai and arrived Beijing this Saturday (July 1) to report to the Chinese national team. The national team is still in Italy for a series of exhibition matches, and will be back next Tuesday (July 4).

Yao Ming said he will still continue his restoration training on his own, but he will stay in Tiandan Apartment of the National Sports Bureau together with the rest of his national team mates, such that he can give advice and help Jonas Kazlauskas, the national team head coach in the familiarization and formulation of team set plays/strategies.

Man......Yao Ming put in another 4 hours of training this morning (Jul 3 2006) in the National Sports Bureau training centre in Beijing.

Yao looks like he's got a bit of a six pack going. Good. Core strength is a big part in being able to hold your ground and posting up.

And his chest looks a bit more defined than before. Our guy is turning into a monster right before our eyes.

New shoes, huh. It's reported he's got some blister a few days ago. Reebok better be careful with their investment.

And Yao's left leg is still weak from the video.

Is that chubby dwarf the macha guy?

THAT guy is the trainer for the Rockets? He looks like a basketball with arms and legs.

Is see trouble ahead if that guy is responsible for getting the players in shape.

Well David Macha's (the one in the black T-shirt) specialty is on player rehabilitation, i.e. getting injured players back into health.

Anthony Falsone's (the one that was drinking) specialty is in strength and conditioning/body building, i.e. keeping players in constant competitive form and shape.

IMHO, both roles should be of relatively same importance to Rockets' players. But then Falsone fired by the Rockets is now Yao Ming's personal trainer.

A friend of mine works for the Rockets and knows Falsone. He says he is a awesome guy. But he got in a fight with another BB employee and creamed the guy pretty good. My friend said that the guy disrespected some of Falsones friends and deserved it. But the Rockets had to fire him because the other guy had to go to the hospital to get stitches.

Anyway, Yao hired him because he did great work on Yao since he came into the league and they are tight.

I think the Rockets could use that kind of mentality around. They weren't very tough last season. I say they hire the guy back to crack the whip.

My friend also said that Falsone was the best in the league. And Yao's improvement last season had alot to do with the individual attention he received from Falsone.

Man.....China Daily SUX to release a news article that is full of CRAP without verification and proof-reading.

There is no such a thing as a training camp in Guangzhou for the national team. Yao Ming and the national team were training at the National Sports Bureau in Beijing all these while

Yao Ming was in Shanghai after coming back from USA on June 22.

Yao Ming did not start training in Beijing on June 1. He only arrived Beijing on July 1, and did not start his personal training until July 3.

Yao rejoins national team in Guangzhou

Houston Rockets' centre Yao Ming joined China's national team training camp in Guangzhou on Sunday, bringing him closer to his long-awaited appearance at the World Championships in Japan next month.

Injured Yao took part in a training session with teammates for the first time since coming back from the United States on June 22.

"I feel quite good and now I am able to follow the squad in the training camp," said Yao. "I am looking forward to my chance at the World Championships as it is a great preparation for the Beijing Olympics two years later. I hope we can make the final eight in Japan."

Yao suffered a fractured foot in his team's 85-83 loss to Utah Jazz on April 11, when Andrei Kirilenko stepped on it as he scored a first-quarter basket on a rebound.

He underwent surgery the same week in the United States and doctors suggested he would be sidelined for an estimated six months and miss out on the championships, which start on August 19.

"He is getting better day by day," said Li Yuanwei, director of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). "His recovery is much faster than we expected but it is yet to heal completely."

The 2.26-metre sensation has returned to the court much earlier than expected. His doctors believe he will be fully fit by around August 1 if his recovery goes well.

He started personal training on June 1 in Beijing but missed the team's warm-up series in Italy a week before.

According to his agent team, Yao will skip another round of matches at the end of this month in France but is likely to play in the Three-Nations in Guangzhou on August 7 against the star-studded United States and Brazil.

Yao averaged 22.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.6 blocked shots, 1.5 assists and 34.6 minutes in 56 starts in the NBA this season, his fourth since being drafted by the Rockets in 2002. The four-time All-Star was sidelined for 21 games earlier in the season because of a toe injury and later missed a game due to a sore calf.

Most recent interview of Yao Ming by Coco Yi Xiaohe from TITAN.

He has joined force with Wang Zhizhi and the rest of his national team mates in the past 2 to 3 days. But he still cannot resume full team practice.

The air conditioning of the basketball court still could not prevent Yao Ming fully soaked with perspiration after a hard day's training. Wang Zhizhi was in the same condition as he stood not far away from Yao Ming, waiting for the arrival of the team bus. The team bus arrived. Yao Ming flung his big knapsack onto the bus, but then turned round, and sat nearby a small pond.

So during this very rare leisure and carefree time, the following interview took place. 5 years have passed, and everybody was eagerly awaiting. Can Yao Ming and Wang Zhizhi once again form a lethal combination at the World Championship ? And during the past 5 years, what have changed between the two of them ? In the interview, Yao Ming mentioned about their ages, and had used the word "just" twice, hinting that there is still a couple of years for both of them to play together in the national team. So it is not necessary to place too high an anticipation on this year's World Championship.

TITAN: In our previous interview, you told us that you could not see what kind of changes in Da Zhi as it was only 2 days that you two met again in the national team. Now after you've practiced together for 2 days, how do you feel?

Yao Ming: (Laugh) He did not change a bit, except maybe 2 years older. Well, I should say, his 3-pointers are as deadly as ever.

TITAN: You said before that you wish Da Zhi can come back such that you two can fight side by side. But now that he is back, but you are injured. Do you think that fate has it that you two cannot play together again ?

Yao Ming: Back then, I really wanted to join hand with Da Zhi on court again. But now it is completely different, and I'm injured. Nevertheless, it is great that he has returned. I am only 26, and he is only 29. I think I will still be in the national team for say 7 or 8 years, and for Da Zhi maybe another 5 to 6 years. So it is not just this World Championship. There will be alot more to come, including the Olympics, right ?

TITAN: As far as you're concerned, what will be more advantageous ? Da Zhi to play on the 4 (the power forward position) or to be your subsitute (on the centre position) ?

Yao Ming: You think Da Zhi is born to be just a reserve player ? As a matter of fact, over the last few days, we're just simulating the set plays and team strategies, as we are still not too familiar with these new tactics/set plays. So I have yet to know whether we can still play with the same chemistry as before. The thing was I have not seen Da Zhi play for the last 2 years.

TITAN: Assume you are in the position 5, which player you prefer in the position 4 ? Da Zhi ? Mo Ke ? Ah Lian (i.e. Yi Jianlian) ? Mo Ke seems to pass the ball well.

Yao Ming: If I am on 5, and Da Zhi on 4 ? Well let me put it this way. Compared to Mo Ke, Da Zhi has more experience, but Mo Ke is much tenacious and he contributed to a certain extent on defense. As for Ah Lian, I just wish he can grow to be much stronger.

TITAN: So have you discussed with Da Zhi how you two could co-ordinate better on court ?

Yao Ming: Not yet. We are still rehabilitating, and are still familiarizing ourselves on some of the set plays/team strategies. And whether I will play centre or Da Zhi will play power forward, it is all up to the head coach. He is the one who knows the team much better; he knows my strengths and weaknesses, and I am sure he knows also how to utilize Da Zhi better.

TITAN: So how was your rehabilitation ? When can you fully convalesce ?

Yao Ming: The doctor said I can start playing after August 1. As of now, I am really not too sure about that. I can only say the chances for me to participate in the World Championship is becoming bigger and bigger.

TITAN: So after August, you can return and play more physical ?

Yao Ming: Rehabilitation is very lengthy and slow. It takes time, and there is nothing you can do about it, just like you cannot swallow a big fat person in one gulp. Well, I did not understand that last year, as I have not gone through that kind of experience (of rehabilitation after serious injury). I over-trained and therefore I regressed. Now I know much better. I have to protect my body better. Like what happened today. In one of the training, I found it too strenuous and therefore I just gave up and did not proceed further with it (as I don't want to re-injure myself).

TITAN: What is different comparing this summer with last summer ?

Yao Ming: It is alot different. Last summer, the torunament was in September, and it was merely Asian Championship. In my current condition, I think I can still handle the Asian Championship handily. But it is no use to be anxious now. I simply will not play too physical unless I am totally ready, as I don't want to re-injure myself.

TITAN: In other words, are you now only lacking actual competition, but physically, there is no question whatsoever about your body strengths and stamina?

Yao Ming: Nah, I am not back into my best condition yet. Even though I put in alot of hours in my daily practice, I won't be able to be back into my top form unless there is real physical encounters on court. The media reported that my field goal percentage is now above 80%. But that is only fixed-point shooting. In competition ? Do you think I can achieve that ? Now I can only watch my team mates play physical and fierce on court, while I can only practice on my own. It is 2 completely different concept. Just like you practice karate on your own without an opponent.

TITAN: So there does not seem too much time left for you to practice together with Da Zhi. Do you worry about the rapport and chemistry between you and Da Zhi ?

Yao Ming: Tacit understanding on court does not come overnight. It needs a process to cultivate. Indeed the time is very tight now. But there is nothing I can do about it. This is something that cannot be rushed. All I can do now is to try my best to complete my rehabilitation. I can only join them in some set play simulations, but watch them in their physical encounter. I will try anything in my ability to be able to rehabilitate but for everything else, I guess I have to leave it to nature to take its course.
