The FIBA Stankovic Continental Champion Cup tournament which is the last warm-up series for the Chinese national team has ended. They will travel to Sapporo Japan soon for the World Championship, which is to commence August 19.

If that was a quote from most any other player I would say maybe you are reading too much into it. But coming from Yao who has always been one to downplay his injuries and play under extreme pain I would say you may be on to something. And yes I hope you are wrong but perhaps playing in these WC games could set him back in his recovery. So I too am worried and I hope his national pride and desire for China to do well doesn't effect his better judgement as to when and how much he should play.

Your translation is very accurate. Yao was not implying he rushed his rehabilitation from injury. Rather, he was saying that he was too optimistic about how close he was to full playing condition.

If you believe Pryuen's is an honest translation and Sina is not lying than that is what Yao seems to be implying. Add that to the fact that Yao has never been much of a complainer and reports of X-rays showing Yao was not ready for long durations of game and practice activity and it seems to reinforce that implication even more.

Of course if you're convinced Sina is full of it then you are left to believe whatever you want. BUt video of Yao limping down the court and pictures of Yao walking barefoot with icepacks on his knees doesn't bid well.

I believe this is exact what Yao meant. He had said, after his big toe surgery, that he has learned the lesson and it won't happen again, and I trust him.

Photos of Yao Ming and the national team at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport this morning. Due to flight seats availability, they have to split into 2 groups. Yao Ming travelled with the first group; they took a team bus from Kunshan as early as 04:30am in the morning to be able to catch a flight to Sapporo at 08:30am. They have arrived Sapporo safely before noon today.

That's probably Yao Ming looked so tired, and kept yawning........

Sounds to me like Yao was referring to the fact they everyone seemed to expect him to be back to his old self all of a sudden.

The guy broke his foot. it is going to takr time for him to recover and it will take time for him to regain his ability that he had before. it isn't as easy as people expect or imagine.

It wasn't a broken hand or finger, it was his foot.

Even people on this board are too critical of him right now. Give the guy some time to get into shape and get used to playing again.

Plus, Sina's reputation is really bad when it comes to accurate information and accurate translation. There is always some over blown story coming up on clutchfans, and it usually comes from sina.

I don't think you guys are interpreting that excerpt correctly.

Basically he's saying that people shouldn't expect him to be 100% yet, he personally thought he was in better shape than he was, but he can play much better as he gets his conditioning back.

This discussion is ridiculous, all this poring over the supposed meaning of a single word in an uncerain translation of an uncertain transcript of a supposed interview by an un-reliable news source. Guys, this is leading nowhere. We will never know what Yao really meant, unless someone can go ask Yao himself.

Yao is gonna play in the WBC, period. Just accept it. There ain't anything you or I or the Rockets can do about it. Just wait two weeks and we will have our answer. If Yao reinjures himself, knock on wood, we will all jump on the CBA and call them heartless Commie tyrants. If Yao is fine and emerges from the tournament free of rust and ready for a new season, we will all jump on Pruyen and call him a trouble-maker and an attention w****. :D

Another source for confirming that Yao Ming is still struggling to find his form.

    Thanks, skywater......then I'm relieved after reading Anthony Falsone's clarification ; I thought I've been over-worried.

To benefit those readers that cannot read or understand Chinese, following is the summary of what Anthony Falsone said:

no kidding...that schedule is a joke. it is going to make for some sloppy play in the 5th game. it worries me because yao is not 100% and fatigue from playing 5 games in 6 nights and the 3rd game of a back to back to back can lead to injuries. hopefully, yao and his coach know not to push too hard.
