I think each game that Yao plays and doesn't leave with some kind of injury is a major plus. The fact that he can gradually accustom himself to the physicallity of the gametime environment, will only make his start of the season with the Rockets easier. Like the doctor said, he needs to buildup the strength of the small muscle groups around his injured bone in his left foot. Playing 20-25 minutes a night will surely help that, as long as he doesn't overextend himself. That is why as long as he is playing healthy, things are looing up.

Plus, do you guys really think Yao is gonna have 8 turnovers a game? He is such an efficient player. That's what these warm up games are for: let the mistakes happen so he and the team in which he plays for can correct them. Learning and adjusting, the game of basketball and the game of life. Let's not get too down on his performances here. He's still the man.

A short answer is YES. Turnover is one of his major weakness in NBA.

And the long answer is that Yao is extremely diligent in watching film and correcting his mistakes, and he'll make the necessary adjustments to limit turnovers as much as possible. Not to mention that a lot of times, turnovers are a product of fierce double-teams and extra defensive attention, in which case it's a team effort by Yao, his teammates, and the coaching staff to develop and execute contingencies that will limit turnovers and maximize the exploitation of defensive pressure.

Eh, I think yesterday Yao was just a step too slow and that the Brazilians sort of had the jump on him, and thus he wasn't doing a good job of taking care of the ball. But I agree that he will look at film and look at ways he can reduce his turnovers.

BT download seed file for this game (China vs Brazil):

    Click this link

4 rmvb files, 1 file for each quarter. Total size 450MB. Unfortunately, all the file names are in Chinese characters so I guess you have to rename them after download.

To help you guys identify the files:

    File for 1st Q: 105.24MB
    File for 2nd Q: 121.62MB
    File for 3rd Q: 124.77MB
    File for 4th Q: 99.50MB

I didn't download them, I just read these info by opening the seed file

Well, Swift didn't quite live up to expectations here. I think what he means is that Yi brings a rebounding presence, a defensive presence, and can shoot midrange jumpers and finish at the rim if he gets the ball off a Yao miss or a pass. He definitely did that yesterday. That was what Swift was supposed to do, of course we know Swift couldn't quite do it.

Wang-Yao duo fails to prevent another defeat

CHINA lost its eighth consecutive warm-up game yesterday but unveiled its biggest weapon just before the start of the World Championships.

The host lost its second game at the Stankovic Cup to Brazil 78-88 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. However, fans witnessed the first Yao Ming-Wang Zhizhi tieup which is expected to be the team's most potent weapon at the worlds starting in Japan on Saturday.

Lithuanian coach Jonas Kazlauskas didn't start Wang, who has just recovered from a leg injury.

Yao is certainly the first, if not the only choice, in China's offense. Opening with a single-handed dunk, the Houston Rockets center scored the team's first seven points. However, China's defense gave too many chances to the fast-moving Brazilians who took a 14-7 lead 4 1/2 minutes into the first period.

Fans gave a standing ovation as Wang prepared to be sent in. He came in for Yao with 3.49 minutes left in the period.

The first Asian to play in the National Basketball Association, Wang scored a three-pointer as the Brazilians led 32-24 by the end of the first quarter.

The Wang-Yao tieup took shape when Yao replaced Yi Jianlian 47 seconds into the second quarter.

Yao forced three fouls from Brazil. The duo improved China to 29-35 before Wang was replaced. Brazil led 44-38 into the half-time break.

"I am still not 100 percent," said Wang, the former Dallas Mavericks center. "I am still not allowed to do certain actions. I can't make too many body contacts in the paint."

With a 6-1 run, the visitors increased their lead to 11 points early in the third quarter. Though Yao and Wang played again later, Brazil outscored China 31-13 in the third quarter to finish at 75-51. Phoenix Suns' Leandro Barbosa contributed 12 points.

"We let them score 32 points in the first quarter," said Kazlauskas. "It was better in the second and last quarters, but the third was a nightmare for us."

Both sides played more bench players in the last quarter. Though China staged a 13-0 run, it was too late to change the final result.

"Yao can draw two to three players' attention while he gets the ball under the hoop," said Wang. "It gave us great opportunities beyond the arc. The priority is to pass the ball to Yao. This is a big problem for us."

Yao finished with 16 points while Wang scored two three-pointers and five rebounds. Yi, considered the next NBA star from China, had a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Barbosa scored 20 points for Brazil.

Yao, who also returned from injury, made a surprising eight turnovers.

With six days left for the worlds, Wang and Yao's fitness will be crucial. "I will try my best to recover and return to my best form," said Wang.

"I have tried Yao-Wang, Yao-Yi and Wang-Yi," said Kazlauskas. "At present, it seems Yao-Yi is better. Wang hasn't trained with the team for a long time. We haven't much time (left for the World Championships)."

China finished bottom in Group A and will play Australia in the match for fifth place tomorrow.

In the earlier game, 22 points from San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker could not prevent France going down 71-77 to an inexperienced Australian team.

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut scored 20 points for the Boomers.

Though China was to submit its roster for the worlds last night, Kazlauskas was still pondering his choice especially over guards, who will be responsible for passing the ball to Yao.

It seems 11 of the 12-man team is: Wang Zhizhi, Mo Ke, Liu Wei, Yao Ming, Yi Jianlian, Zhu Fangyu, Du Feng, Wang Shipeng, Sun Yue, Zhang Songtao, Chen Jianghua.

Chen was the only surprise pick. The 17-year-old, without any Chinese Basketball Association league experience, beat two other guards to book the ticket to Japan.

Forward Gong Songling and guards Xie Libin and Zhang Qingpeng will compete for the last slot.

The Chinese offense in the 3rd Q yesterday looked soooo static.

It was basically, PG gets ball, bounces it and points randomly in front of the court to teammates, and then turnover.

Listening to the commentary was pretty funny, the commentators got extremely agitated when the PG refused to pass to the man inside, even when he was free. By the time the passes came, it was way too late.

Most of the time when I saw yao in the 3rd Q, he was having to go at it 1v1 from just inside the circle, and he was even receiving the ball from beyond the 3 at times.....
