I know that the pictures were taken at two different angles but Yao's looks massive around his surrounding compared to wang, who is a 7-footer himself.

    thanks for the updates pryuen

It will be 7 hours from now (as I posted), i.e. 19:30 pm August 7 (Monday) our time, which is 12 hours (East Coast) or 15 hours (West Coast) ahead of USA time.

I learnt that there maybe a delayed broadcast of this game on ESPN in USA.

Well I've got a South China Morning Post here in Hong Kong and it has two articles on Team USA in China, I'm going to type out the second one:

CHina's star duo likely to miss US clash
    Mathew Scott in Guangzhou

Tonight's first game in the China Basketball Challenge is a sellout but the two stars local fans most want to see in action look likely to be watching from the stands.

Towering centre Yao Ming is still nursing his broken left foot, the injury that saw him miss the last few months of the season with the Houston Rockets in the NBA.

A decision on whther he will suit up against Team USA at the 10,000-seat Guangshou Gymnasium tonight will be left to the last possible minute. And even if he does play, his minutes are sure to be minimal.

His China teammate, former NBA player Wang Zhizhi- back playing in the China Basketball Association (CBA) after stints with the Dallas Maverick, the Los Angeles Clipeers and the Miami Heat- will definitely miss the game, having failed to recover frm a knee-ligament damage.

"Yao is travelling with the team and under observation, wnag is out," was the response from tight=lipped organisers when asked about the pair.
Speaking a few days ago in Beijing, Yao sounded less confident about his chances of playing in tonight's game.

"Right now the injury is about 80 per cent recovered, but there is still a little instability," Yao told the Chinese press then. "The doctors are telling me to look at this from the long-term perspective and avoid high-level competition; so althought I'll be in Guangzhou, I might not play."

The China team were not talking to the press yesterday although they did make an appearance for a photo call at a shootaround in the afternoon.

With the world championship coming up in Japan from August 19, the CBA is keen to protect its two stsars- hence the reluctance to give the pair a hit out against a US team loaded with NBA stars and carrying a steely resolve.

After a third-place finish at the Athens Olympics and a lowly sixth at the last world championship, the crown that goes with being the dominant basketball nation in the world has not simply slipped from the head of USA Basketball but has clattered to the ground. The amercan's have come to China to set the record straight.

"Because of the disappointmends, we restructrued how we were going to go forward with the national team," Jerry Colangelo, managing director of USA Basketball, said yesterday.

"This was so we could build a strong foundation and show respect for the game of basketball that is felt throughout the world."

Tonight will be the first time China has seen a collection of current NBA players on show.

The US dismantled Puerto Rico in a warm-up game last week and now have their sights set on steamrolling through China tonight and Brazil tomorrow night.

"I don't know much about the current China team. But we gauge our performances by how well we think we should play, and then let the score take care of itself," said Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski.

"The main part of our training has been to get star players from a number of teams to play as one team. That for us is the most important thing- to play as a team."

All three squads here held seperate shootarounds at the Guangzhou Gymnasium yesterday, after which they headed back to the heavily fortified hotel where all the visitors are staying.

Tonight's game between China and the USA will reach an audience of millions as it is being braodcast live across the mainland on CCTV5.

Tickets for the game were selling for as much as 3800 yuan- or the quivalent of a local famer's annual income- but sold out in days, while some tickest for tomorrow night's game between Brazil and the US are still avaliable.

I didn't translate this article, I simply typed it all out from the newspaper.

YUP that was Rudy T. He is one of the officials with the USA national team.

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2006-08-06/18392381352.shtml

In the above interview, Rudy T said:-

USA wants to amend their tarnished reputation of basketball, be world and Olympic champion once again. Therefore, they have picked Coach K to be their head coach, and is trying to build a more balanced team with the current pick of players.

He also spoke fondly of his favorite player, Yao Ming. He said Yao Ming has grown by leaps and bounds and has developed into one of the most dominant centres in NBA. He also said it was very unfortunate that he was injured and could not play. He did not recommend Yao Ming to play in the warm-up game with USA national team yet as he is not ready and he needs to learn to protect himself from further injury.

He also said when USA meets China in the World Championship, USA needs to have special tactics to defend against Yao Ming, as he is now a dominant interior player. But on how the USA team gonna play against Yao Ming, he joked that it is state secret, and he would not disclose to the reporters.

OOPPSS, almost missed your question !!

Chen Jianghua may play tonight in the exhibition. May not as the starting point guard but definitely some play minutes.

I made the above bold prediction as the starting point guard Liu Wei is still nursing his injury sustained in the European tour, and Head Coach Jonas Kazlauskas was not exactly happy with the performance of Sun Yue, who had been struggling with his form and confidence.

All these while Jonas Kazlauskas was not happy with the performance of the point guards of the national team. He has included Chen Jianghua and Xie Libin, 2 young and inexperienced guards, into the roster mid of July prior to making the European tour. He was pissed that due to visa problems, both Chen and Xie could not travel with the team for Europe to gel with the team.

Therefore the game with USA, and the forthcoming 2nd FIBA Stankovic Continental Champion Cup will be the last chance for Jonas Kazlauskas to observe these 2 young players to decide whether he should include them into the final 12 for the World Championship.

dude watch it monday night when it could be played on your big screen, without lag, instead of wee hrs in the morning on a small computer lcd

that is, of course, if you live in america, if not, then can't help you there, may have to pay for a subcription for CCTV4 online

I despise watching games after I know the results lol.

Im one of those few people who hate Tivo.

And no I cant just stay away from a tV all day.

Even though im not betting on this game, the gambler in me keeps me wanting to know the results ASAP.

ive recorded so many things I never rewatch.

After i watch a movie in the theater 9/10 i have lil desire to watch it ever again on DVD

Man I really hope Yao is feeling good and ready to play. It feels like I have waited years to watch him play again although its only been a couple of months. Plus it would be great to watch him dominate against some of the best the US has to offer. Please play Yao.

(Only if your ready of course)

A short interview of Shane Battier by a Chinese reporter in the lobby of the Royal Mediterranean Hotel around noon this morning:-

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2006-08-07/17172383362.shtml

The reporter felt that Shane Battier seems to be pretty used to his role as a supporting player; very polite, sometimes humorous, and seemed very educated.

    Following is the detail interview:-
